DSL Woes

I’m getting tired of life without DSL. Especially since my PowerBook insists on freezing every time I disconnect after using its built in modem, unless I immediately shut down. On top of everything my Cisco 675 continues to taunt me with LED’s indicating DSL connectivity, while my computer vainly tries to lease an IP address via dhcp. I should probably call US West tomorrow and see what’s up.

Blog-Off Brutality

Heh! Looks like RobotGirl was beating up on Mark and working at the same time. He didn’t stand a chance against such a powerful multitasker.

Personally I’m starting to think that it would be much more interesting (and healthy) to have shorter team oriented Blog-Offs. For instance you could have teams of two face off with with one member from each team taking a topic for an hour and then switch to a new topic and the other teammate for the next hour. Or you could try a true tag team format where you alternate entries… I think there’s plenty of possibility there.

Blog-Off

So far everyone’s favorite child blodigy seems to be holding his own in the most recent Blog-Off. I hope his competitor has to go to work while he’s at school tomorrow.

Yes, I know both child (Mark’s 15 after all) and blodigy (blog prodigy) are a bit of a stretch, but what the heck.

REALbasic For OS X

REALbasic announced REALbasic support for MacOS X today. That’s great news for the Mac platform, especially in terms of making Macs viable in the business world. I’ve played with REALbasic off and on, but haven’t done any significant projects in it as of yet. Part of my problem is that I’ve become more interested in Web Application development lately.

OS X Delays

The funny thing about Apple’s announced delay on releasing the final version of MacOS X is that I actually had a gut feeling that it wouldn’t really be coming out until January. That’s easy to say now I suppose right? I don’t think the delay is a particularly big deal as long as Apple gets the beta release out to everyone who wants it in a timely fashion.

Ugh. Almost two and I’m finally tired enough to go to bed.

Pyra’s First Big Announcement

Looks like the DSL connection is working now, just not my ISP.

I know it’s already all over the weblogging world, but Pyra made their first of two big announcements today. I’m guessing that this and the second big announcement points to an entirely new, yet (to quote the big evhead) _interesting_ direction for Pyra.

DSL Fiddling

My DSL connection might actually be up as my Cisco 675 is flashing some LEDs that normally indicate that everything’s functioning. Despite these positive signs internet connectivity is still not working yet. Oddly enough that’s just the motivation I needed to finally configure my laptop to use its internal modem. I had to get online and download that classic Mac terminal emulator Z-Term so that I can connect to the 675’s management port and check the configurations. Hopefully that will yield some clues.

MacOS X Info

Well, I was so busy working on a cranky PC this morning that I completely forgot about Steve Job’s WWDC keynote. Looks like there will be a public beta this summer, but the final version won’t be released until January. Apple has updated their site with the latest MacOS X info so go take a look if you’re interested.

Being John Malkovitch

I finally saw Being John Malkovitch over the weekend. It ended up being more twisted than I thought it would be, but I definitely enjoyed it. And of course the puppetry was really amazing at times.

Updates are going to continue to be sparse until I get DSL up and running at my apartment (supposedly in another week or so).

Futon Wrangling

Mary and I lugged my quite hefty new futon mattress up to my apartment during our lunch hour. It’s a huge improvement over the previous one, as it’s approximately twice as thick, but it required some wrestling to get through my box-filled apartment. The funny thing is that I haven’t come close to getting anything unpacked yet and I’m already looking at buying more furniture for my apartment. Most likely I’ll be purchasing some kind of entertainment center along with a table/desk/workspace for my computers, although in the interest of not spending all of my monthly income at once I’m focusing on the latter at this point.
