IP/NAT Primer
“Damien”:http://mrbarrett.com has posted a helpful primer on “Understanding IP numbers and NAT”:http://web.archive.org/web/20000101-20040831re_/http://www.mrbarrett.com/ipprimer.html (refound on the “wayback machine”:http://web.archive.org). One thing that you can do with NAT that he didn’t touch on is “port forwarding”:http://www.ox.compsoc.net/~steve/portforwarding.html, a method for making your internal network computers available to the rest of the internet through the firewall (dsl modem in this case) for specific tasks such as serving web pages . It’s something I’m hoping to do myself at some point in the future.
