My copy of HP IV finally arrived today. I especially liked the bright fluorescent green sticker on the box stating *Deliver by July 8*.
MacCentral has an interview with Ambrosia alum Jason Whong. I’d been wondering what he’s been up to since leaving Ambrosia for Green Dragon Creations and it’s pretty clear now that he’s been keeping quite busy working on some interesting Mac gaming projects.
I haven’t done much in the way of using Flash myself, but as even the most casual web surfer knows it’s becoming more prevalent every day. The downside to this trend has been a corresponding increase in poorly thought out interface design. Thankfully there are people talking about this issue and this article at Flazoom offers some great insight into using Flash to actually improve interface effectiveness.
Ah, the joy of hard drive crashes. Today at work I had to deal with one right off the bat and it really made me appreciate the restore CDs that Apple includes with all their iMacs. I think I’m going to look into setting up restore cd images for all the models we have in the building. Maybe if I get some time later this week. At any rate no essential data was lost, but it was a good reminder that I need to make sure that our file server backups are running properly.
Yesterday during a short excursion down to Pasco, Washington for another basketball tournament I managed to get 80 pages into HP IV. I traded Kristen (my sister) the use of my PowerBook so that she could quell her growing Crash Bandicoot thirst while I perused the pages of her recent acquisition. The downside of the whole situation was that upon returning home last night I had not yet received my own copy. I guess I’ll have to accomplish something this afternoon after all.
My sister, crafty shopper that she is, already managed to pick up a copy of Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire locally and for cheaper than my online purchase to boot. Ahh well. I’ll have my copy soon enough.
While Python for Palm OS is an excellent concept, it’s still strictly an alpha release and for now a bit limited. Hopefully they’ll be able to get some more developers interested and make the necessary improvements that will allow for an interactive interface. I’ll be keeping my eye on this one.
It looks like Harry Potter may be showing up Saturday afterall. Even though Barnes and Noble had indicated on their site that they were shipping HP IV via United States Post Service priority mail, my inital order confirmation talked about shipping via UPS. That had me a little worried since I was having it shipped to my apartment rather than work. Luckily I received a new confirmation email indicating it was on the way via USPS so I should be okay. Incidentally, I also ordered Rafe Colburn’s Using SQL book and it should be showing up as well.
Chicken Run is a fun (and funny) little movie. I highly recommend it for all ages.
