More Diablo II

I played a lot of Diablo II this weekend, but I wasn’t able to successfully log into the USWest realm on Battle.net even once. I was usually trying in the wee hours of the morning too so that makes it that much more puzzling. I guess once I’ve beaten the single player in nornal mode I’ll just move on to more productive uses of my time instead.

Marching Ants

Hee hee! Builder.com presents Create Marching Ants, a nifty bit of DHTML goodness that will leave you wondering if you should stop eating near your computer.

Diablo II And Harry Potter

The New York times has an in depth article focusing on the huge popularity of Diablo II and it’s similarities to the fantasticly popular Harry Potter books. Plus at the end it mentions this tidbit: _”The growing game market has not escaped the attention of Warner Brothers, which is working to develop a game based on the Harry Potter series.”_ I’m definitely up for some 3D networked Quidditch!

Open Source Originality

Staying on the Open Source topic today, Michael Swaine has an insightful column on Open Source and Originality. I think Mozilla is a great example of an Open Source project that’s looking to completely surpass its closed source rivals. Despite all the recent bad press, progress is being made on a daily basis, something you can’t say about the recently released Windows version of IE 5.5 which still offers only 80% of the CSS functionality it should have had to start with [via Cam].

Newsblogger

I don’t find this too surprising, but it’s interesting to see some hard data on just how much demand for open source professionals there is these days. Clearly it’s a good place to be if you’re in the IT industry.

I found the previous tidbit using the new Newsblogger web application Pyra and Moreover have collaborated on. Very cool!

Mozilla M18

I downloaded the Mozilla M18 nightly build this afternoon and it doesn’t seem too bad. Especially after I went to the classic rather than modern theme. My main complaint at this point are the somewhat flaky preferences and a bug that prevents me from switching to my preferred default font of Verdana. I have a lot of fonts installed on my computer and the font menu refuses to scroll down beyond one third of the total list (purely an estimate). Verdana of course appears somewhere down at the unavailable end of the list. I suppose I could throw together a user style sheet that works around this problem. Hmm… may have to look into that.
