Jython
Jython 2.0 is out. Here are the instructions for installing Jython on a Macintosh. It’s always fun to have more nifty stuff to fiddle with.

I like where Dave Winer is going with the desktop webserver idea, especially the my.userland on the desktop. I use weblogs.com all the time to find recently updated weblogs, but it just makes a lot more sense to let my computer download the xml file his server generates and then do the processing gruntwork based on my preferences.
I was actually thinking of something along those lines last spring, but I was missing the idea of running a server on my desktop. Now it occurs to me that this idea could probably be carried out using Apple’s Web Sharing and a script (Python, MacPerl, or AppleScript) that runs once an hour and builds the update page based on some form of favorites file you’ve set up in advance. RadioUserland obviously has the advantage of having all the pieces of the puzzle running in an integrated environment.
I’ve ridden on the Metro in Washington DC several times in the last year and a half during visits, but nowhere near as completely as this gentleman.
Have I mentioned that I really, really like Zope? I do. I most certainly do (I’m using it for a project here at work).
Speaking of Zope, 2.3 Beta 1 just came out. I just may have to try installing that on my spare Win2K Pro beta running machine. That reminds me, I really should install Win2K Server on that particular box since I’ve got a couple unused copies lying around my office.
At long last, we have regained access to the Internet here at work. It’s really annoying to be cut off for the majority of the day. But then you knew that.
Hmmm… looks like someone else is ripping off an Apple design.
Another long weekend over. Time to get ready for a busy day at work.
CNNSIhas an in depth look at the final four head coaches left in the NFL playoffs. Hurry up and get here weekend : ).
Today was my first day at work in a while. Not too hectic yet, but I’m sure it will be next week when the students return.
Jury duty is very draining. We finished up the closing statements in a fairly reasonable amount of time this morning, but it still took a couple hours to deliberate and arrive at a verdict this afternoon. I was afraid that my view would be in the minority, but that didn’t turn out to be the case and as a group we successfully arrived at the same decision. I still have several days worth of service remaining, but if I’m lucky I won’t have to report again. I’m really looking forward to the upcoming three day weekend.
The new Powerbook G4 is a thing of beauty, but it’s probably not that big an upgrade speedwise for current G3 Powerbook users like myself since it’s still at the 400Mhz and 500Mhz marks albeit as a G4. Perhaps I’ll revisit the issue come next fall…
I like the modifications to the OS X interface they’ve made after listening to the Beta feedback as well. The new $129 price seems reasonable, especially when compared to Windows 2000 pricing, but it would be nice if Beta users got some kind of discount. I’ll definitely be purchasing it either way.
Spent a good hour cleaning out my Inbox and otherwise sorting and organizing my email. I hadn’t actually ever done that completely so it’s kind of refreshing.
Now it’s time to work on various projects I’ve been neglecting recently.
