Tired

Just watched the premiere of The Job. It was actually pretty amusing.
Not only do I need to clean up my workspace at home and at work, I also really need to rearrange, delete, and back up all the random files sucking up hard drive space on my computer. Of course my computer has quite a bit more organizational capabilities going for it, and could be scripted to do a lot of the organizational work for me. What I really need is a programmable self-cleaning desk.
Investing with just $50. Good idea.
I spent a relaxing lunch exploring some of Radio Userland’s inner workings, specifically its Desktop Website Tools. It’s actually remarkably simple to incorporate your own tools. I don’t have any specific ideas for new tools at the moment, but I’ll probably play with customizing some of the four example tools.
I’m also curious about the built in weblog tool. I’ll probably start playing with that soon as well. I know from the cursory glance that I gave it a few days back that it supports uploading to a Manila server or just straight ftp to a static host. It would really rock if it supported Blogger as well. Based on some things that Dave Winer has written in the past I know he’s at least considered the idea.
In the how on Earth did this slip in under my radar department: Grey Matter looks like an awesome perl 5 based blog/journal management system. I’m going to have to fire up MacOS X so I can play with this.
Now that the high school basketball season is over I have a lot more free time to fiddle around with a few different computer projects I’ve been interested in exploring like digital video via FireWire. We just received a new Panasonic PV-DV400 here at work and I’m especially looking forward to playing with Apple’s iMovie 2 software in conjunction with it. Guess it’s time to clear up some hard drive space!
On a related note: MiniDV tapes aren’t particularly cheap from what I’ve seen so far. Last night I bought a couple at CompUSA for around $11 each. I’m sure prices will drop quite a bit in the next several years as the format penetrates the market, but until then, buying in bulk online is probably the most cost effective route. Definitely an area I’m going to have to look into.
I downloaded the final release of Radio Userland last night, but I haven’t had a chance to fiddle with it too much yet.
The Weblogs.Com on the Desktop tool is cool, but it doesn’t seem to have updated since 10 PM last night on my machine. That’s probably the first thing I’m going to try to figure out how to straighten out.
I was curious about this myself. Dan Hartung explains the mysterious pain killer given to burn victim Michael last week on Survivor.
