Bleh

I feel utterly blah at the moment. Time for a Creamsicle.

Back when I was three or four and my family still lived in the countryside just outside Salem, Oregon my dad would always take me over to the little neighborhood grocery and buy Creamsicles for the two of us. Those vanilla/orange sherbet ice cream treats were definitely a favorite of mine at that early age and make for a very fond memory 25 years later. All I have at the moment are Meadow Gold Orange Dream Bars, but they’re pretty much the same thing.

Spent the earlier part of the evening making last minute travel plans for next week with my mom. Things are still somewhat up in the air, but getting closer to being locked in. Looks like I’ll be flying back home from Phoenix next Thursday evening most likely.

Busy Sunday

The Code Red woes continue… I’ve had to power cycle my Cisco 675 DSL modem at least four times today. I’ve changed a couple settings based on a suggestion I found on the most recent Slashdot article, but I probably need a days worth of network uptime before I can say it was successful. There is a CBOS patch 2.4.2 out there that will solve the problem if my current fix fails, but it’s not readily available and will be a pain to download to the 675.

Today’s Seahawks training camp scrimmage was hot, but enjoyable. Matt Hasselbeck played pretty well and made a spectacular scrambling touchdown pass to finish off a two minute drill. I’m already looking forward to next weekend’s preseason opener. Unfortunately I’m going to be out of town and probably won’t be able to watch it.

Seahawks

I haven’t been writing here very much lately. That’s strange in that I’ve actually had more time than usual. I’ll be taking a weeks vacation starting next next weekend though, so I think I’ll make an effort to be a little more active in updating over the next few days.

I spent this morning out at EWU for the second consecutive Saturday. This time around it was football rather than basketball that was the focus of my attention; the Seattle Seahawks are holding their preseason camp out there and they’re open to the public. Mary’s dad goes way back with Tom Lovat, the Hawks offensive line/assistant head coach, and we were able to speak to him briefly after the practice which was neat for John.

Bleh!

Didn’t really feel like coming into work today, but I did anyway and have been somewhat productive so far.

The Code Red worm doesn’t seem to have brought the Internet screeching to a halt yet. I patched my Windows 2000 test server yesterday after receiving verification via email that it had been infected prior to being shut down last week. Our main campus sysadmin indicated today that he hadn’t found any vulnerable servers on campus when he checked last night so that was good news.

Yesterday during my technology related meeting, someone randomly asked what it would cost to replace all the Mac’s in the building with PC’s. I was surprised and annoyed.
