U.S. vs. South Korea

I’d kind of like to watch the U.S. vs. South Korea soccer game tonight, but I’d have to go into work to do it since I don’t have ESPN2 at home. Considering the time difference and the hours the games actually take place I wish ABC would just broadcast them live. It’s not like the networks have any worthwhile programs in the early morning hours of a Monday anyway.

Doh! No RagePro

It turns out that MacOS X 1.5 doesn’t actually activate the RagePro drivers that it includes. Luckily this tip at xlr8yourmac.com explains how to activate the driver. Time to give this a whirl.

Silk and Mozilla 1.0

Silk and Mozilla 1.0 are the perfect combination for my browsing needs. It’s so nice to have beatiful Quartz-rendered text in a standards compliant browser. Unfortunately I need to be productive for the rest of the afternoon. Sorry, no time for browsing.

Unsanity

Time for a little unsanity: Silk

Silk enables the Quartz text rendering and smoothing introduced in Mac OS X 10.1.5 in all Carbon applications. This means antialiased text in Microsoft Internet Explorer, Mozilla, and many others. Why wait for developers to update their Carbon applications when you can get the silky smooth text everywhere, right now? And of course, Silk is completely free!

More MacOS X 10.1.5 Quicktime

More MacOS X 10.1.5

Quicktime is not the only thing that’s better in the new OS X update. I just confirmed that NT 4 based AppleTalk shares are actually stable on my computer under the new update. This was a huge pain for me up to this point as our two main file servers here at work were basically unavailable to my laptop because of Finder crashing issues. Much to my delight everything now works as it should after the upgrade.

Mozilla 1.0

Mozilla 1.0 is finally out, but I have a feeling it’s going to be a while before I can download it in a timely fashion. The release candidate I’ve been using for the last few weeks should continue to serve just fine in the meantime.

Of course I haven’t looked at Chimera recently and I hear that it’s been updating a lot recently. I should probably take a look at updating that as well.

There’s so much cool stuff going on these days in computers and the web; I want to get away from being an observer and start being a participant!

MacOS X 10.1.5 is out.

MacOS X 10.1.5 is out. It seems to be the update I was waiting for as Quicktime Movies are actually playable on my Powerbook again. Sweet.

Printer Pain

I discovered today that the two refurbished HP 4 pluses we bought at work don’t have built-in PostScript. Doh!

Thanks to this hint at MacOS X Hints I can probably work around the problem with a little bit of effort and the power of GhostScript.

Bare-bones Diet

Bare-bones diet gains followers Could self deprivation be the secret to a longer life?

I was talking to Mary about this topic just last week. I first heard about the idea of extending lifespan by drastically reducing caloric intake a few years back, but I hadn’t read anything recently until I saw this article today. Interesting stuff, but I think most people are hoping scientists find ways to duplicate the results without the drastic diet.

Lakers Take Kings

Crud.

At this point all I can say is Go Nets.
