Tinderbox

I started fiddling with using “Tinderbox(A note taking application to the nth power!)”:http://www.eastgate.com/Tinderbox as a task manager at work today. Last week my supervisor asked me to figure out a way to track what I’m working on and Tinderbox seemed like an obvious choice. I’ve got a couple ideas on how to go about everything, but it’s been a while since I’ve played with the application. I do specifically remember a mention of someone else doing something similar though. I’m going to have to head over to Eastgate and see if I can find that entry.

*Update:* The link I was looking for is “TinderDo - Task Tracking using Tinderbox”:http://radio.weblogs.com/0100524/stories/2002/06/08/TinderDo.html.

Back In Action

I just finished updating to Movable Type 2.6.3 and more importantly reimported all my archives. I’m hoping that has filled in all those holes that I didn’t really notice until recently. Permalinks and any external references (not that there were ever a lot of these) are probably somewhat messed up now, but the monthly archive pages are there along with the entries.

I’m still contemplating a move to an alternate content management system (more for the heck of it then out of any pressing need), but MT is serving me quite well for the time being.

Konfabulator!

Konfabulator How do you describe something that can do just about anything?

That’s a pretty apt quote and Konfabulator is definitely one of the coolest MacOS X apps I’ve seen in a while. In a nutshell Konfabulator is an application that acts as a backend for floating graphical widgets that are created via a combination of xml, javascript, and image files grouped as a bundle file. The supplied widgets include a calendar, stock ticker, to do list, weather monitor, AirPort signal monitor, picture frame (rotates pictures from your images folder), iTunes remote, a couple different clocks, and a battery monitor. On top of that there are already several third party widgets available on the Konfabulator website as well.

Time to brush up on my javascript I think!

Axodys Holes

Okay, this is weird. I just noticed that Axodys is missing huge chunks of content from its archives. The titles are there, but otherwise the entries are empty. I wonder at what point that happened and how hard it will be to recover/fix all that work?

Just what I need, another big time consuming project during the time of year that I have the least. sigh

A minute after posting: Then again I was somewhat intrigued by Vellum. Maybe it’s time for yet another Axodys content management move.

PowerBook G4 Shopping

I’ve had my heart set on a 12.1″ PowerBook G4 since it was announced. Unfortunately for me our budget is fairly tight at the moment with a new puppy (this morning I learned just how expensive a simple bladder infection can be when it requires a trip to the emergency vetrinary clinic) so I’ve been constantly adjusting the various build to order options at the apple store and weighing my options as part of that process. I’ve swayed back on forth on RAM, storage space, and wireless networking, but I was always pretty sure that I wanted to get the SuperDrive enabled model.

Today John Manzione wrote a helpful column on the state of DVD-R/CD-R technology and convinced me to save the extra $200. Here’s the kicker for me: the Super Drive in the 12.1″ G4 is 1x for DVD burning and 8x for CD-R burning, while the Combo Drive in 12.1″ doesn’t have DVD burning, but is 24X for CD-R burning. Considering that I burn CDs far more frequently than I will ever burn DVDs and faster external DVD burners are likely to show up within the next year or two at the $200 price point anyway it seems logical to save my money now.
