Monday Monday

I don’t suppose anyone knows whether the built in modems on iMacs or Lombard model PowerBooks support Caller ID. Feel free to drop me an email if you do. It just occurred to me today that since I have Caller ID it would be fairly cool to whip up a little REALbasic program that announced who was calling. I suppose that even if those internal modems don’t support it I may have an old external that does.

I was surprised to wake up to a light skiff of snow this morning. Didn’t realize that was in the cards at all. Of course tonight we’re supposed to get a few inches of snow turning into freezing rain in the morning. With the steep hill outside my apartment that inevitably means I’m going to be hearing a lot of spinning tires tomorrow morning when I wake up.

NFL Playoffs

I actually have quite a bit of space now that I’ve cleaned up some of the clutter in my apartment. It’s a nice feeling. I’ve been thinking about doing a site redesign for a while now, but I haven’t started on it yet. I think I should be able to find time during the coming week though.

I didn’t watch any of the playoff games this past weekend, but it’s definitely cool to see a bunch of fresh teams in the NFL playoffs. CNNSI‘s Peter King gives a pretty good rundown on this week’s match ups.

Incidentally, Jeff Robinson, one of my dad‘s former players, scored a touchdown for the Rams in yesterday’s game against the Vikings. He was a starter for the Ferris basketball team that finished second in the Washington AAA state tournament in 1988.

Ceiling Problems

Oh joy! My bedroom ceiling sprang a leak this morning thanks to all the rain and snow we’ve received in the last 24 hours. Time to get a hold of the apartment manager I guess.

Yay! My manager is taking care of my dripping ceiling problems. He seems like a pretty good guy. The whole situation actually gives me an excuse to rearrange the furniture in my bedroom a little bit.

Cringely’s latest column mostly talks about his take on the AOL/Time-Warner merger, but the most interesting thing to me was the last paragraph:

“I think Jobs dropped the “I” because Apple didn’t make any hardware announcements at MacWorld. Everyone expected the new high-end notebooks, codenamed Pismo, to be announced, but they weren’t. Instead Apple mumbled some intentions of leveraging its web site, set a new date for MacOS-X, and generally showed off vaporware. The company had to have been worried that investors would react negatively to the hardware delay. So Steve dropped the “I” from his title, sending Apple’s stock up when it might have gone down.”

Resolution Day

Today has been sleep in and clean the apartment day. Might as well start the millenium off on a clean note I say. I don’t really have any specific resolutions though. I wonder if there are any good resolutions out there in the web world. Here’s an amusing top ten list of resolutions you won’t keep this year. I found resolution 0 to be especially amusing (yes, there are actually more than ten).

0. When I hear “Where do you want to go today?” I won’t reply “MS Tech Support.”
