Software Patent Links

Monday, February 28th, 2000

Dave Winer has a lot of useful links on the software patent issue today on Scripting News. He points to a very informative article on the issue in the MIT Technology Review. This whole issue just makes me boil.

Great! Blogger, just ate one of my post attempts for the day. Luckily I’ve still got it in my memory banks.

At one point I had a URL for a simple little web application that would take the ISBN code for a given book and list the pricing at several online bookstores (including amazon.com). I’ll have to see if I can track that down again.

No More Pesos For Senor Bezos. I decided to stop shopping at amazon after the One Click patent lawsuit reared its head and anyone who thinks giving a company a monopoly on e-commerce is a bad thing should do the same.

Valentines Day

Monday, February 14th, 2000

Well, obviously it started working again. I’ll quit complaining.

Great, Blogger is acting weird this morning and telling me it can’t find axodys.com. I of course have no problems going directly to axodys.com.

There’s quite a bit of snow dropping out of the sky this morning. And it hasn’t shown any signs of letting up yet either.

Happy Valentines Day Mary! I love you!

Hmm… so much for inline CSS. I wonder what I’m doing wrong? Ah ha! Fractured tags can kill you.

Deep Leap Amusements

Thursday, February 10th, 2000

Hee hee! I found this gem over at deepleap. Takes me right back to those early 80′s days of Choose Your Own Adventure books.

<!–secret message #2 — You’ve unearthed the secret treasure chest! Turn to page 292 to pick the lock. Turn to page 135 to hack at the chest with your axe.–>

Hey, Bump finally has a new design. I’d make snide comments about how long it took after Robert said he was going for a new look, but obviously I need to get my own act together.

Blogger does seem to be a bit more refined when you’re working from a PC with IE 5 as I am now. Lots of various keystroke shortcuts and a windows-esqe gui. I wonder how IE 5 for the Mac is going to be in this regard?

iCab

Monday, February 7th, 2000

Looks like iCab does indeed work with Blogger. I checked my iCab preferences and discovered that InScript is not activated by default. Turning it on allows you to publish. Cool!

The new version of iCab is out and it supports JavaScript (or InScript in this case with trademarks and such being what they are). Unlike IE 4.5 for the Mac, it actually seems to work with Blogger as I’m using it right this moment (got to love that German engineering). Oops I spoke too soon, I can post stuff, but the publish button dosen’t do anything. That and there’s still no support for CSS. Still, it’s great to see some third party competition for the big two and it is still in Beta.

In the tradition of EvHead, Megnut and countless other weblogs, I’m hoping to do my own redesign sometime this week. This will of course have to be fit in between work, basketball practice, basketball games, Sid Meier’s Alpha Centauri, eating, spending time with my girlfriend, Ferazel’s Wand, updating my weblog, riding my bike, and everything else. No Mary, those items were not listed by order of importance!

Bye-bye free time, my copy of SMAC for the Mac has arrived.

Magnolia

Sunday, January 16th, 2000

I fully intended to update the old weblog yesterday, but I managed to get pretty busy with everything and didn’t realize until after midnight. When you use Blogger you don’t have the luxury of posting a day after the fact.

I caught an afternoon showing of Magnolia and found it quite satisfying. It certainly wasn’t a movie for the masses, but I enjoyed its quirky interwoven subplots and various dysfunctional characters quite a bit.

MacWorld Keynote

Wednesday, January 5th, 2000

I’ve successfully connected to the live web broadcast of Steve Job’s keynote. Boy, do they play some cheezy music while we’re waiting for it to begin.

I am really looking forward to the Macintosh version of Internet Explorer. Hopefully it will be released today sometime, rather than later in the week. I checked the Microsoft Mactopia, but there was no sign as of yet. Of course Steve Job’s keynote address isn’t for another half hour anyway.

Lest everyone think I’m a freakish Microsoft loving Mac user I should point out I’m also really looking forward to the next version of Netscape Communicator, although I wish it was going to be a standalone browser rather than integrated with composer and email. Mozilla build 12 is definitely promising and if the final product works better for me than IE I will make the switch.

Right now I prefer to use IE 4.5 for the Mac, but I’m forced to use Netscape Communicator as well because it works better with Blogger. Communicator also crashes more and seems to want use its own, older Java run time rather than Apple’s newer improved model (which IE uses).

Weblog Fun

Saturday, December 18th, 1999

While thinking about how unmotivated I feel about going shopping this afternoon I decided to put Google to use on the word “motivation”. Serendipitously I discovered that Duke basketball coach Mike Kryzewski has a motivation section on his basketball coaching site.

With it being the holiday season and everything, this piece by Brad L. Graham had to be included in my weblog!

I’m exploring the idea of moving Axodys fully into Manila. The main question I’m looking at is whether to have my site hosted by one of the new Manila oriented providers or to shell out the money and serve the site off one of my own computers. I can see advantages to both systems and will have to continue to mull things over.

Of course I may just decide to stick with pair.com and blogger for now too. It’s kind of a matter of figuring out where I want to go with Axodys. Any thoughts on the subject are of course welcome.

Blogger Update

Wednesday, December 15th, 1999

Everything seems to be up and running in Blogger again. I definitely like having a bigger space to input my entries, and being at the top is of the page is better as well. Unfortunately it looks, like IE 4.5 for the Mac isn’t handling the new upgrade very well.

Coolnesss! Blogger is getting an upgrade around 12pm PST today. Hopefully everything will go smoothly and they’ll be back up around 3pm PST as planned.

End Of Days

Wednesday, November 24th, 1999

Whew! Looks like Blogger is finally back up and running properly. I was all set to do some serious linking early this morning (I have the day off since I worked all day Sunday), but I was running into some scary looking ODBC query errors.

I’m debating whether or not to go catch the first local showing of End of Days, the latest Arnold vehicle. I guess I’d better decide pretty quickly here since it’s showing in an hour.

I took the plunge and went to the first showing. Epinion: End of Days

Blogger Problems

Tuesday, November 23rd, 1999

Arrgh! Blogger did something weird to yesterday’s entry. I think I’ve got things corrected now.

Axodys Blogger Edition

Sunday, October 24th, 1999

Today marks the day that I finally blogger-ized my weblog. Obviously there still may be some tweaking to do, but I’m hoping not too much.

It’s been a while since I’ve updated my site consistantly, but I’m planning for that to change. We’ll see what happens.

On an amusing related noted I discovered the bump blog last weekend and enjoyed reading it and its past entries quite a bit. Sure enough, as if some dark conspirancy was plotting to steal joy from my daily existence, it hasn’t been updated since Monday. Oh well, I can relate.
