Wonder Boys

Thursday, March 2nd, 2000

Harry Knowles posted his top films of 1999 a few months back, but I just noticed it today. I’ve seen over half of them, but obviously there are quite a few good movies left to see.

Speaking of good movies, I saw Wonder Boys last weekend and liked it quite a bit. It was great to see Michael Douglas playing a role that was very much the opposite of the successful executive type that he’s done so often.

The X-Men Are Coming

Monday, February 21st, 2000

The Quicktime trailer to the X-Men movie is out! Not only does it look pretty sweet (Wolverine battles Sabretooth on top of the Statue of Liberty at one point), but for once it’s a preview that doesn’t give anything about the plot away. I’m sure they’ll do that eventually, it’s a long time till July 14.

Yes, I used to collect comic books many moons ago.

No progress yet on the redesign (obviously). I have managed to do some laundry though and I’m also planning to do a little bit of exercising shortly.

I’ve played quite a bit of NCAA Football 99 today on the old Playstation. I’m getting better, but I’ve got a ways to go.

Angela’s Ashes

Sunday, February 13th, 2000

The SVG stuff (simple vector graphics) that Dave Winer has been talking about recently on Scripting News is fairly interesting, but also kind of depressing. Oh boy, yet more cool technology that will take at least another year or two for widespread browser adoption and integration.

I went to Angela’s Ashes this afternoon with my girlfriend and her parents. It was fairly good, but the word from Mary and her mom is the book (as is often the case I think) is far superior.
Hmm, the weekend is nearly over.

The Hurricane

Saturday, February 5th, 2000

I ran into my friend Nichole while out at my family’s house today. Nothing like that daily dose of stinging putdowns I always say. She and my sister have a site here. It needs work and it’s not a weblog, but it’s better than nothing.

Looks like I’m finally going to go to The Hurricane tonight. My dad reports that it’s pretty good after seeing it last night so I imagine I’ll like it as well.

Outpost.com and 82 in Magnolia

Monday, January 24th, 2000

Uh oh, looks like Outpost.com, one of my favorite online computer stores, had some problems with too much customer information availability. Hopefully they were able to get those taken care of before something like the recent credit card data hijacking took place. According to the article, credit card numbers were not at risk in this instance.

Before seeing Magnolia I’d heard references to the fact that there are all kinds of references to 82 throughout the movie. I found several obvious ones during my viewing, but Kempa has the most complete listing I’ve seen to date. I didn’t come close to catching all of these.

Magnolia

Sunday, January 16th, 2000

I fully intended to update the old weblog yesterday, but I managed to get pretty busy with everything and didn’t realize until after midnight. When you use Blogger you don’t have the luxury of posting a day after the fact.

I caught an afternoon showing of Magnolia and found it quite satisfying. It certainly wasn’t a movie for the masses, but I enjoyed its quirky interwoven subplots and various dysfunctional characters quite a bit.

iMac DV Special Edition

Wednesday, January 12th, 2000

Today I found out that we had already received the three iMac DV Special Editions I ordered last week so I’ve been playing with them a bit. The first thing I noticed when trying out the included Bug’s Life DVD was that the Harman Kardon speakers are excellent. I’ll bet with the addition of an iSub it’s just phenomenal.

On a purely aesthetic level the iMac DV SE’s graphite case is very pleasing and because it has no built in fan it’s eerily quiet. It actually made me resent the fan noise of a couple nearby computer’s that I had previously had no problem ignoring.

The Iron Giant

Sunday, December 19th, 1999

I think I’m finally just about recovered from all the shopping that I did earlier today. Thankfully, I’m much closer to being done as well.

My girlfriend and I had planned to go to today’s GU basketball game against Montana, but apparently too many people were free to attend the game this afternoon and we were turned away at the door. I didn’t mind too much since the Bulldogs had already beaten Montana once this season by 16 or so, and missing the game allowed us to do some additional shopping.

I just discovered an interesting cross platform XHTML related product over at mozquito.org. It looks like they have some fairly interesting stuff in the works there.

I succeeded in doing a little bit of shopping yesterday, and it looks like I’m about to do some more here. I still have quite a bit to get done in this coming week unfortunately.

I picked up The Iron Giant on DVD while I was shopping yesterday. In case you hadn’t heard, it’s a great animated film with something for kids and adults. It’s also one of the first films to fully integrate a CG character with traditional animation, and does it quite well.

End Of Days

Wednesday, November 24th, 1999

Whew! Looks like Blogger is finally back up and running properly. I was all set to do some serious linking early this morning (I have the day off since I worked all day Sunday), but I was running into some scary looking ODBC query errors.

I’m debating whether or not to go catch the first local showing of End of Days, the latest Arnold vehicle. I guess I’d better decide pretty quickly here since it’s showing in an hour.

I took the plunge and went to the first showing. Epinion: End of Days

The World Is Not Enough

Sunday, November 21st, 1999

Ended up putting in a long day at work today so I didn’t have any time to put much into the old weblog. Now I’m headed of to The World Is Not Enough.

Links

Sunday, November 7th, 1999

I see that I’m starting to get some hits now that I’ve gone public so to speak. Welcome to all new readers!

Some handy test taking advice?

Have you driven a Ford lately? Ouch!

Wow! The Seahawks are 6-2 and guess who’s coming back? Joey inflated self-worth Galloway.

Saw The Bone Collector this afternoon. I would describe it as a gruesome yet entertaining movie overall.

The Story Of Us

Sunday, October 31st, 1999

Not only is today Halloween, but it’s also the first day after daylight savings time. It always seems to take me a little while to get in sync with the change when we start monkeying with the time of day. Now I’m probably going to be getting hungry before I leave work the next week or two.

I saw The Story of Us this evening. Today’s high: spending time with my girlfriend. Low: having to go into work to restart the email server.

Prior to the movie I saw a much more in depth Toy Story II trailer than I had up to this point. I’m definitely looking forward to it based on what I saw. I think November and December are going to have a lot of strong movie offerings this year.

Legos And Monsoons

Tuesday, October 26th, 1999

Legos meets Armageddon the movie?

Of course the rain we’ve been getting in Spokane is nothing compared to this.
Speaking of which here’s a pretty sweet 3d graphic of the Indian Monsoon, June 1988.

Austin Powers

Friday, June 25th, 1999

It was amazingly cold and rainy today!

Luckily it cleared up in time for Hoopfest setup to move along with out any problems.

Mary and I went to Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me tonight. It was better than the first one. Yeah Baby Yeah!

Hanging With Steve And Jesse

Saturday, June 19th, 1999

I ate at Thai Tom’s on the Ave for the first time and it was really good. I definitely got plenty of good Thai food this week.

Afterward we headed back to Steve’s apartment for some cutthroat UNO. Holly ripped (accurately) on my card dealing skills and Mary was kicking all of our butts until she had to leave to pick up her brother at the airport.

We took a brief ice cream break at that point and went to MixUp. Jesse and I indulged ourselves in some Decadence (a raspberry, chocolate ice cream, and brownies mix).

I finished up the night with my friends by watching Better Off Dead”. I enjoyed the movie, but I was pretty tired and it didn’t seem quite as good as it used to.

Shoe Shopping And Movies

Saturday, June 12th, 1999

I did a little bit of shoe shopping today with my mom, Kristen, and Nichole. I ended up buying a pair of black Doc Martens and some navy blue Tommy Hilfigers.

Nichole being the young lady of discerning taste that she is, threatened to beat me with my Tommy’s. She was also worried that I might wear my new Doc’s with shorts and white socks. Give me a little credit Chunky!

Later that afternoon we ditched my mom and went to Election. It was definitely an entertaining yet thoroughly twisted film. Every single character in the movie had things to dislike about them.

Meet The Parents

Wednesday, June 9th, 1999

Exciting times!

I finally met Mary’s parents when I went over to her house to pick her up after work. They seemed pretty nice as I expected they would be. For dinner Mary and I stopped at Rock City for an excellent Italian/American dinner. The focacia bread was awesome and my pasta with scallops, snap peas, and juicy pineapple chunks was scrumptious!

We watched two quality videos once we got back to my place. Austin Powers and The Whole Wide World (which Jesse had reccomended to me quite a while ago).

The Phantom Matrix

Wednesday, June 2nd, 1999

Mary and I went to The Matrix tonight. I of course really like it since it was my third time around.

I think we’re going to try to catch The Phantom Menace again fairly soon as well.

Lake Action

Saturday, May 29th, 1999

The lake was cold today, but we still got in some good jet skiing, frisbee throwing, and paddle boating.

We also got in quite a bit of movie watching. During the afternoon we saw The Dead Zone and I finally got to see Jerry Maguire.

Never Been Kissed

Sunday, May 16th, 1999

I’m amazed at how fast May has gone by. I’m ready to get into some more June-like weather though. Today was a step in the right direction I think.

I went to Never Been Kissed with Kristen and my mom today after a brief shopping expedition to Northtown.

Family Time

Sunday, May 9th, 1999

And I thought the weather was weird yesterday! It snowed out at my parents house for quite a while.

I got to play with little Joe today which was definitely fun. He’s getting fairly accomplished at kicking and throwing balls for a two year old.

I also saw The Mummy and thought it was good for the most part.

I got the chance to look at some old photographs of myself at my grandparents when we went to wish my grandmother a happy Mother’s day. My middle school picture was definitely the worst.

Videos With Kristen

Friday, April 30th, 1999

No bike yet, but today was definitely a most excellent day anyway!

I test drove Kristen’s new means of transportation and watched a couple videos with her. Home Fries was basically lame I thought, while Gattaca was as good as I remembered it being.

Zero Effect

Sunday, April 25th, 1999

I just finished watching The Zero Effect this morning. It starred Ben Stiller and Bill Pullman and it’s one of the best movies I’ve watched recently. I have no idea what made me pick it out at Hastings either. I think I was looking for less than mainstream movies and this fit the bill.

I think I will watch another movie now even though it’s one am.

Uneventful Day

Wednesday, April 7th, 1999

Today has been largely uneventful.

Tomorrow I’m going to go watch The Matrix for the second time.

The Phantom Menace

Tuesday, April 6th, 1999

Hey, I’m almost caught up here again. I seem to have a lot of little things I need to do that I’ve been putting off. I guess tomorrow will have to be the day to accomplish stuff.

The third episode of Futurama was on tonight and I think it’s picking up steam. Bender is definitely the best character on the show.

I’m going to The Matrix again on Thursday.

The latest issue of Wired has George Lucas on the cover. It’s amazing to think about how much his vision has driven movie industry technology in the last 20 years.

I guess some people are predicting a $100,000,000 opening weekend for The Phantom Menace. I wonder how many screens it will show on here in Spokane? I would love to see it opening day, but I’m sure it will be insane.

Deep End Of The Ocean

Monday, April 5th, 1999

I enjoyed my day off by sleeping in and not accomplishing a whole lot.

This evening I went to The Deep End of the Ocean with my parents. It was good and definitely sad at times, but some parts of it just struck me as unrealistic.

The Matrix

Sunday, April 4th, 1999

I did manage to see The Matrix yesterday. It was very cool. You can’t go wrong with virtual reality, kung fu, and stylish black clothing.

Early Morning Rain

Saturday, April 3rd, 1999

It’s early Saturday morning and it’s actually raining! At least it was after I left Steve’s parents house.

I’m hoping that Kristen and I can go to The Matrix this afternoon.

EdTV And Forces Of Nature

Saturday, March 27th, 1999

Today was a two movie day. EdTV and Forces of Nature. Both were good.

The Goonies

Friday, March 26th, 1999

I watched The Goonies tonight for the first time in many moons. It’s hard to believe it’s been almost 15 years since this movie came out.
