I did a crazy thing yesterday. I joined with thousands of other would-be novelists and signed up for NaNoWriMo. NaNoWriMo, for the unititiated, is actually an abbreviation for Nation Novel Writing Month and it’s basically a fiendish writing plot first launched by a guy in Oakland named Chris Baty way back in 1999. Since then participation has grown by leaps and bounds and this year somewhere around 5,000 people are taking the marathon writing plunge.
That means that starting Thursday I’m going to attempt to write a 50,000 word novel in 30 days. That means roughly 1700 words a day. Guess I’d better come up with some characters and a plot in the next couple days
