December

Sterling is settling in quite nicely!
It’s that time of year.

November

Just about a wrap on the This Old Shed show!
Productive several days of work on the shed project.
Another disappointing draw for Tottenham at Everton after conceding the equalizer in the second half of stoppage time.
Episode three (Nixon’s Women) is my favorite For All Mankind episode yet.
Just realized that Shantel VanSanten, who plays Karen Baldwin on For All Mankind, was a Barry Allen love interest on an early season of The Flash.
The first episode of For All Mankind was pretty good and the show’s alternate timeline really raised the stakes of Apollo 11 in a compelling way.
Wondered if walk-on Will Graves, was the former GU women’s coach’s son when I saw the last name, but the roster isn’t up to date so I got confirmation on Twitter.
Not sure what to make of the Brock Ravet indefinite leave from the GU program for personal reasons announcement.
Timme is a complete monster handling the ball in transition.

October

Magica Voxel is awesome, but I’m not a fan of the default color palette organization.
Benioff & Weiss leaving the Star Wars franchise “to focus on their Netflix projects” is the best news I could possibly hope for this morning after they admitted over the weekend that everything that was ever great about Game of Thrones was in spite of their contributions!
As much as I love my Apple tech podcasts, the rush to immediately acquire the newly announced AirPods Pro feels a little off putting.
Changed the spark plugs on my Element for the first time and it’s actually got some pep again!
Son with an unbelievable opportunity off the top of the woodwork, but Liverpool dodges the Spurs opening salvo.
Good game at Anfield today.
Seems like the Alex Morgan April baby news is a huge opportunity for Christen Press in the Tokyo Olympics next summer.
Mike Leach with the best halftime coaching interview response ever: “Running to the ball,” immediately runs to the locker room.
Holy cow!
Just saw Christian Pulisic finally got his first Chelsea goal in the first half against Burnley today… and then his second as I typed this!
Didn’t realize we were going to have another rainy day, but here we are!
Lime continues to have issues with their hub allocation algorithm.
Played my first remote D&D session last night with my coworker gaming group via Fantasy Grounds and Discord chat.
My DayOne entries with low res images seem to be book thumbnails that were added by IFTTT when I finished them in Goodreads.
Noticed that DayOne was showing low quality images on a lot of my entries with photos last week, but figured it might just be a glitch on my new iPhone.
The remodeled pavilion is pretty awesome, particularly once the light show starts!
Tottenham drew with Watford 1-1 this morning while I slept in.
Excited to hear that Tottenham Hotspur’s 2019-20 season is being filmed for Amazon’s All or Nothing documentary series.
Arrow season 8 episode 1 was pretty good.
First episode of Mr.
Just heard that the Pullman airport just completed a bigger 7,100 foot runway.
LeBron James’s tweets on the Hong Kong/China/NBA free speech conflict are laughable, but predictable.
Nice to get back regular Fall temperatures today.
Looks like Lime is leaving out scooters in Spokane for a lot longer before it releases them now.
I’m digging iOS 13’s dark mode on my phone, but I really need to refresh some of my background images.
I’m adjusting to having a bigger phone pretty well and I love the battery life, but I’m not totally sold on the cheap clear case I picked up from Amazon.
Finally upgrading my old work MacBook Air to Mojave.
Wintery weather in early October is the worst kind of climate change.
First time I’ve managed to forget my lightning headphones while still remembering my old but iPhone 11 incompatible 3.
Wahoo!
It’s pretty weird when you see Ted Cruz getting worked up about the controversy that the Houston Rockets GM created by tweeting support for the Hong Kong protestors and you basically agree with him.
Finished watching Legend of the Drunken Master and then also watched Ip Man yesterday.
First I saw the horrifying 0-3 score, than I saw Lorris’s arm injury, and… there are just no words.
Great game and win for the Seahawks tonight.
Just read that Washington Hall of Fame high school coach Denny Humphrey passed away yesterday morning at the age of 79.
The unseasonably cold weather we’ve had over the last couple days has really dried out the skin on my hands.
Listening to a lot of Tom Petty in the last week and Into the Great Wide Open in particular (a music rotation mainstay during my freshman year of college).
It’s crazy to me that the Texas Rangers would need to replace a 25 year-old stadium except for the fact that the replacement is better equipped to deal with global warming than the old one was.
I’m amazed that Republicans are still acting like it’s business as usual now that Barr and Pompeo are implicated in the Ukraine call (and a whole lot more Trump-centric service apparently).

September

You know it might be one of those days when you go to use the restroom and realize you forgot to wear a belt.
It’s amazing how miserable (and smartphone unfriendly) serving scooters in a cold steady rain can be!
How dead to me are the Mariners?
Whew!
Mike Colter is on a new CBS show with Michael Emerson called Evil.
Looking forward to getting home tonight and making some progress on the big shed project.
It only took four years and my second Apple Pay capable iPhone, but finally bought some gas without physically swiping my credit card.
The first three episodes of the second half of Disenchantment season 1 have been a welcome comedic snack in a time when it’s hard to fit in hour long shows.
Power efficiency of the iPhone 11 when picking up and dropping off scooters is so far beyond what I was doing with the iPhone 6s that I’m kind of in disbelief and will seek further corroboration tonight.
Changed things up (for me) this morning and tried some pumpkin spice creamer with my coffee.
IPhone 11 micro review after a day of use: camera is awesome, everything is really fast, screen quality and battery life is great, but it’s bigger than I would prefer.
A fair amount of app breakage (anticipated and unanticipated) with the new iPhone.
Night mode is lit!
Time to start cleaning off my iPhone in preparation for the big weekend migration project.
I was totally going to save money and order an iPhone XR, but the low light camera mode is such a game changer that it’s worth the extra $100, particularly since I don’t plan to upgrade for another 4 or 5 years.
Xfinity Mobile was completely sold out of green iPhone 11 preorders in all three configurations (and didn’t allow backorders?
The Cincinnati Greenway project is supposed to be wrapping up, but I’ve been so accustomed to using Dakota all summer that I hadn’t even noticed any progress.
Describing candidates as “electable” is code for some kind of patriarchal conservative appeasement BS rather than a reasonable calculus for picking a Democratic candidate.
Adding a tempered glass screen protector to an RS-97 handheld makes a huge difference.
Lime hub availability seems to be improving in Spokane again.
Now that I’ve seen both Ant-Man MCU movies I think I’d have to put them in my top 10 favorites purely from an entertainment perspective.
This Apple Arcade in 100 seconds video is so much more compelling than what Apple showed in their keynote Tuesday.
Kottke is finally back and it looks like Jason will be writing up a postmortem in the near future.
It boggles my mind that Jason Kottke’s blog has been offline for over 24 hours because of some kind of DNS issue.
I really need to develop a new podcast recording routine with the kids.
The shed tear down project out at my mom’s house is turning out to be a bit of a bear.
Xfinity Mobile updated their iPhone mobile pricing to align with Apple’s lineup changes yesterday and will also be taking preorders on the new models at the same time Apple is I think.
On a funny note, only just realized that the midnight green iPhone 11 Pro is the perfect Arrow phone.
Just saw a petition to make 9/11 a federal holiday.
The iPhone XR at the new reduced $600 price point is pretty appealing, I wonder how long it will take Xfinity mobile to adjust their new device purchase pricing to reflect it since they’re still in the $750 realm.
The new iPhone 11 Pro has a green model that is so my style that it almost makes me want to figure out some way to afford one!
Just went for a short 10 minute walk around campus in the rain and discovered the front of my pants were completely soaked by the end.
Carnival Row exceeded my expectations.
Gardner Minshew made his NFL debut for Jacksonville today after starter Nick Foles went down with a broken clavicle in the first quarter.
Now that I’m almost 4 years into my iPhone 6s my excitement for new iPhones is pretty muted.
It’s kind of amazing all the free or relatively low cost video game making systems that are out there these days.
There’s a lot of crap on Twitter, but man does my man Lin-Manuel Miranda manage to be an inspirational counterweight, a veritable Atlas, nay, Superman of positivity and humor that the service (and world) needs now more than ever!
The Spokane River is really low right now, at least five or six feet below normal I’d guess, and it smells terrible!
Snuck up on these two while they were talking to the neighbor boy through the fence!
2-2 draw after Spurs weren’t able to muster much in the second half beyond some unlikely Sissoko attempts at the end.
Just like that it’s 2-1 after Lacazette puts in an impressive strike.
Great penalty goal by Harry Kane puts Spurs up 2-0 after a reckless challenge took out Sonny in front of goal.
Great team goal by Spurs after a ragged and uncertain opening 10 minutes.

August

Finished off August with a big scooter night and better yet only needed 3 hubs to serve them all thanks to a 12 scooter hub.
Looks like Mar-a-Lago is in Dorian’s path, but it seems likely that even if it was completely destroyed, Trump would just use that scenario as an opportunity to divert more taxpayer funds into his family’s pockets.
NetNewsWire 5 is out and works really well.
Looks like I managed to lose my primary headphones today (unless they fell out of my pocket at home rather than some random parking lot in Spokane).
Drove across the Bridge of the Gods after an accidental, but worthwhile scenic detour back into Washington during our drive home Monday.
Twitter is all over the sizable protests in the UK in regard to the prorogation of Parliament and yet I’m seeing minimal coverage everywhere else on the web.
Looks like I only have about a month to work my way through Portlandia as it’s leaving Netflix September 24.
Wasn’t expecting all the rain we got overnight, but it was clear that the weather was changing as I rode my ebike back into Spokane through a mild headwind last night.
Really looking forward to my Food Truck day burrito… not just for the novelty of it, but because I normally eat at 11am and I’m starving!
Also, the Libby app, which I’d forgotten that I already had on my phone, is pretty good and instantly downloaded the audiobook once I fired it up.
My local library didn’t have an eBook copy of Carrie Brownstein’s memoir, Hunger Makes Me a Modern Girl, but they did have the self-narrated unabridged audiobook on Overdrive so that ended up being a complete win and I’m already on chapter four.
Classes don’t start for another week, but campus is really coming back to life today as more students and faculty return.
Portlandia is pretty funny.
Think I’m going to collect all of Tottenham’s extended match highlights this year.
Crazy finish to the game.
Lucas with an amazing header goal on his first touch after coming in for Winks!
Mind blown: After knowing of Portlandia and Sleater-Kinney for years, but never directing very much attention to the show and a little more to the band (listening, not watching), only today realized that Carrie Brownstein is a major part of both endeavors.
Avista is proposing a new park along the Spokane River north of Mission.
Chelsea’s sloppiness with possession is driving me crazy, but entertaining back and forth game.
Looks like Christian Pulisic is going to be coming off the bench today vs.
Great 3-1 second half comeback for Tottenham vs.
20 years later it’s crazy to me that so many people in the early to mid-90s thought a Lincoln Street Bridge over Spokane Falls was a good idea.
It’s been a weird week for Lime scooters in Spokane.
Air quality in Spokane quite a bit better than up where I live in the Mead area.
Just learned that Linux Journal shut down yesterday.
The local Patchwork/SSB powered family social network is underway.
Nothing like forgetting both your primary and backup headphones to make you appreciate just how crappy these Xfinity promo headphones I dug up at work are.
Looking at experimenting with both Scuttlebutt and Pleroma so finally investigating some of the dynamic dns/port forwarding capabilities of my wireless router.
Kind of bummed out that zeppelin.

July

Spacemacs wasn’t on my text editor radar until today, but it’s pretty slick how it blends vim and emacs.
Intrigued by the idea of using org-mode outside of emacs.
Inspired by the latest Incomparable Podcast episode and being a Hulu subscriber finally watched the first episode of Veronica Mars after hearing plaudits for the last 15 years.
My scooter stacking technique still needs work, but I harvested and rode stacks of three scooters twice tonight.
One more thing about Stranger Things Season 3: the Dustin -Suzie (Duzie?
Stranger Things Season 3 had a pretty satisfying ending and left enough dangling threads to set up Season 4 nicely.
Rui Hachimura released his first Cup Noodles commercial today and it’s silly awesome!
Was curious to go back and relisten to the episode of Systematic when Max Temkin was a guest (now that it’s several years later and I’ve gotten to know him better through other podcasts) and then I realized it’s no longer available.
Three quarters of the way through Stranger Things season 3 and I’m loving it, but man, Hopper’s interactions with Joyce and Eleven are as terrible as the Internet said.
Crazy stormy night in Spokane!
Nothing like a random automated Lime text about serving late to make you paranoid that you might have accidentally dropped off a scooter without serving it (I didn’t).
I had no idea National Women’s Soccer League matches are all available on Yahoo Sports (if they’re not the one game a week that ESPN shows on ESPN2 or ESPN News) until today.
Star Trek: Picard looks kind of epic.
I’m kind of excited for Team Canada’s basketball team- four GU guys got tryout invites (Olynyk, Pangos, Clarke, and Wiltjer) and they have more NBA talent than ever before.
The Strong road construction that’s been going on up on 5-Mile Prairie all summer is maddening.
The more I research Scuttlebutt/Manyverse the more I wish there was already an iOS version that could be my primary means of accessing the network.
I was somewhat familiar with scuttlebutt, a decentralized social network developed by a developer who lives on a sailboat and is often offline, but then I learned about manyverse the first phone based client (Android only) and my interest is piqued.
Apparently jumping the peloton in the Tour de France has become a thing.
32 Emmy nominations for the last season of Game of Thrones is absolutely preposterous.
Love it when I’ve updated my install setup policy right before configuring a bunch of new Macs only to learn there’s a new software update out today that already makes my updated setup out of date.
Houston pairing Russell Westbrook with James Harden still seems crazy to me, but I guess the Chris Paul situation wasn’t working so something had to give.
I could really go for a nap right now,but I’ll probably just have some more coffee.
Experienced my first flat on my eBike tonight.
The more I read about Nadine Woodward’s conservative positions in her run for mayor of Spokane (particularly in regard to the homeless and local press), the more disgusted I am to see how Trump-like her tv personality with no experience candidacy is.
Still not watching Le Tour, but confirming my sentiment from a few days ago just heard that besides being down 8 minutes after yesterday, today Tejay Van Garderen was involved in a crash and sustained a facial injury.
Megan Rapinoe gave an amazing, inspirational, off the cuff speech today in NYC to conclude the USWNT World Cup celebratory ticker tape parade.
It’s kind of a bummer that the only thing I find mildly interesting about the Tour de France this year is how the green jersey competition is going for Peter Sagan; he’s so dominant that it’s rarely in question.
Ordered a new bike headlight since I’m riding at dusk pretty regularly now.
In other sports news, GU greats Brandon Clarke and Josh Perkins had their NBA summer league debuts yesterday and both had excellent games.
They did it.
Rose Lavelle with a monster 1 on 1 breakaway goal from the top of the box puts the USA up 2-0!
Huge penalty goal by Rapinoe puts the USA up 1-0.
Great, highly competitive Final so far.
Looks like Lime raised their Spokane scooter rates by 5 cents a minute.
Another 4th of July at the Gilman’s- I’m here and I have so many questions!
Loki, living his best life chilling in our garden while his family has a boisterous barbecue across the fence!
Interesting- Lime just notified me that they’re moving collection time back to 10pm in the 4th.
Finally ordered some more scooter chargers so I can get out of the charger juggling business and go to bed a little earlier!
Great win for the US!
Having the luxury of Carli Lloyd as a late game sub is pretty unreal.
Feel like the US is starting to flag energy-wise with about 15 minutes to go.
Apparently the Betsy Ross flag has been adopted as a symbol of white nationalism.
I generally support Colin Kaepernick in his flag protest, but I’m struggling a little bit with the Nike Betsy Ross Flag shoe controversy.

June

Finally replaced the front and back sway bar bushings on my Element and suddenly there’s a lot less suspension noise going on with my car.
I was sort of pessimistic about the impact of Hoopfest on Lime usage, but they’ve actually increased the scooter hub sizes near the shuttle parking in the University District.
Great win for the USWNT, but bummed out for a class French side that shouldn’t have had to face the US before the semis at least.
France’s energy looks way better this half, but they’re starting to turn it over.
France vs.
Started watching the new Das Boot show on Hulu last night based on the TV Talk Machine podcast recommendation.
Discovered that Lime has removed all the hubs around GU’s campus this morning.
I’m pretty sure my grandma (Granny Gilman) was doing emoji as far back as 40 years ago, but here’s some physical evidence from 1997!
We’ve got a thunderstorm on the way, but apparently Spokane’s Doppler radar is down for maintenance through next week.
Watched The Damned United this afternoon and it was a really good lesson on hubris, obsession, and redemption.
Finally completed my long running eBike build project and it is as fast and awesome as I had hoped.
Huge penalty goal for Megan Rapinoe puts the USA up 2-1 with 76 minutes to go.
Super gross giveaway goal by a careless USWNT defense, but the shot itself was stellar.
My favorite part about The LEGO Movie 2 is the extremely catchy, amusingly meta pop music (Catchy Song gave me the biggest grin) and the fact that it goes full-on musical.
Now that we’re starting to see more GU players be border line NBA caliber I’m really happy to see that the G League is making real progress as a minor league path to the NBA.
I have the sudden urge to create entire parties worth of Bard’s Tale characters named after my favorite podcasters.
Between Brandon Clarke and Ja Morant I think Memphis is my new favorite NBA team.
I think in some ways it’s actually better to go undrafted and sign as a free agent than to be drafted in the second round.
If OKC grabs Brandon Clarke I’m going to be so annoyed.
Pacers, Spurs, or Celtics would be a great spot for Brandon Clarke.
Shaky several minutes for the USWNT.
Not liking all the American defensive miscues.
Exciting beginning to USA - Sweden, USA takes a quick lead, but Sweden looking to attack the US defense quite aggressively.
Today has gotten off to a much more aggravating start than I expected.
I’m excited to see how the NBA draft goes tomorrow.
The first episode of Savage Builds was incredible, but when you start with recreating the Iron Man Mk.
Apparently Castlevania was originally named Dracula Satanic Castle in Japan.
Cousins in the front!
A Lime Scooter just popped up as harvestable in Deer Park!
Okay, yes, confirmed that Chris Boucher was the lone Canadian on Toronto’s team of Americans and Internationals (and he was buried on the bench).
Toronto is a legit NBA Championship team, but I wish we could have seen a series where they beat a fully healthy Warriors squad.
The Gen 3 Lime scooters look brutally bulky- 60lbs and wider decks do not appear fun to handle.
There’s a mysterious spot over in the Spokane U-District that confounds scooter GPS and makes them appear at an easy pickup spot they’re nowhere near.
Today’s hot weather made running a bit challenging.
Alex Morgan just scored her 5th goal!
I think Rapinoe wins the goal celebration of the match award.
The annual “craziest three weeks” of the year at my house have begun this week.
There seem to be a fair amount of negative reviews of Console Wars on Goodreads, but personally I really enjoy the storytelling style.
I’m kind of intrigued by Swamp Thing, I didn’t even realize it was out and now it’s been cancelled after the first week apparently.
Found another great retro video game music podcast called Retro Gaming Boombox.
Sunset Rainbow
Downtown Spokane at dusk.
Super weird to be caught up on all my regular podcasts.
Just heard that Phil Martelli has been hired by Juwan Howard to be an assistant coach at Michigan.
That was a packed WWDC keynote.
It’s as if the new noise level detection functionality on Apple Watch was implemented with my teenage daughter in mind.
For All Mankind looks pretty awesome.
I remember the American xenophobia towards Japanese companies during the 80s and early 90s, but it’s fascinating to revisit it from Nintendo’s perspective in Game Over.
If I’d read Red or Dead five years ago instead of last summer I would probably be a Liverpool supporter; instead I’m just an admirer of their history, team, and manager.
Spurs battled, but just never found a way to put the ball in the net and then Liverpool closed the deal with a second late goal.
Weird match so far.
Big game today for Tottenham Hotspur.

May

Giving Fiery Feeds a try today.
Here comes the first summer-ish thunderstorm of the year!
Deciding to keep one of my bikes in a bike locker at work is one of my best decisions of the summer so far.
Had a delicious barbecued burger for lunch, but had no idea it was National Burger Day today too until now.
Kind of weird weather pattern today.
Today I learned Eastern Washington has its own version of Brexit in the form of the “Liberty State” movement and even more hair follicles on my scalp instantly died.
Got in my first bike commute of the year yesterday and it was pretty good, but sad that the Children of the Sun trail adds time.
John Gruber is good friends with the Panic crew so I was wondering how long he’s known about Playdate.
Panic’s new Playdate handheld game console looks amazing!
Jaden McDaniels just picked Washington over Kentucky and Coach Hopkins has landed his first elite recruit.
Still stiff and sore from playing and pitching six innings of Kickball on Monday.
Tonight I had one of my best scooters harvested to gas used ratio nights to date.
I’m kind of curious what would happen if one of the subpoenaed administration officials defied Trump and testified anyway.
Got in a short dusk bike ride around GU, the University District, and the Centennial Trail last night and it was glorious!
Today’s reminder that I am getting old: William Shatner came to Spokane for a Wrath of Khan screening and the article covering the event mentioned that he is 88 years old!
Loki, the trickster neighbor cat, has taken over our roof!
Did some work in the front yard pulling dandelions today.
Season 7 Episode 22 was a pretty satisfying way to conclude Arrow even if we still have 10 episodes in Season 8 next year leading into the big crossover event.
Also, I kind of laugh and shake my head at all the Apple podcasters I listen to that have stopped wearing their Apple watches regularly after spending ridiculous amounts on the higher end material models.
It’s kind of fascinating to see how Apple Watch adoption has gone in my family.
Had to cut my run short today because of the massive downpour that hit right at the 4K mark.
I thought I was going to be dealing with some rain this afternoon during my run, but it looks like the storm is going to hit later this evening so pretty happy about that.
Starting to get a little annoyed by all the meetings I’ve had this week while needing to devote time to the end of fiscal year computer ordering rush.
That said, if Biden emerges as the Democratic nominee I will absolutely vote for him.
I’m kind of in disbelief that Joe Biden is the polls’ democratic front runner.
Always fun to be stuck in a reboot loop after running a security update first thing.
It annoys me that Limes in Spokane are $4 each now instead of $5, but if it discourages competition enough to let me regularly harvest 8-12 scooters I’m okay with it.
Sort of crazy first night of harvesting Limes.
A little bit disappointed to learn that Lime per minute pricing has jumped to .
Just had my first Lime scooter sighting on campus.
Finally have my primary Bard’s Tale I party to the point that I can use the 4x99 Berserker fight to quickly level new characters.
I’ve never had a non-iPhone smartphone in the the touchscreen era, but the Google Pixel 3A is the first Android phone I would seriously consider because of its price point and camera quality.
Happy to see the “Biggest Loser” moniker is really taking off in social media.
I’m so disengaged from MLB I didn’t even know that the Red Sox were last year’s champs until I heard about who is and isn’t visiting the White House.
Holy Cow!
Speaking of my RS-97, I’ve been trying out some classic Game Boy games on it like Tetris and Dr.
The PyMenu launcher for RS-97 handhelds is pretty sweet these days, even though it still seems to have a few issues going into standby mode on mine.
I was thinking that this year’s Bloomsday time might have been creeping up to within a couple minutes of my dad’s times at the same age, but I was still five minutes ahead.
My only complaint about Bloomsday 2019 is how far they make you walk post finish line to get water.
Temperature today was super pleasant until I hit Doomsday Hill.
Ran almost exactly the Bloomsday time I expected given my current weight and fitness level and best job running tangents yet (12.
Slack line time!
Just realized that’s I’m in a new age bracket for Bloomsday this year.

April

Rainy day blossoms.
Finally managed to replace the engine knock sensor on my Honda Element today.
I hadn’t heard of Boss Fight Books until the recent Humble Bundle, but love the concept and execution.
Zach Norvell is testing the NBA draft waters as predicted, but his social media announcement seemed a little more all-in than I expected.
pCloud has some really interesting Easter weekend offers.
On the flip side Brandon Clarke also entered the draft and if he stays in I could see him going in the top 10.
So UVA’s Kyle Guy has hired an agent and declared for the NBA draft.
Regardless of which shell I use I really need to figure out a routine for quickly setting up the command line to my liking when jumping onto a new computer environment.
Working my way through a Bash shell scripting video course over the last couple weeks has been pretty worthwhile, but now I’m starting to feel the urge to integrate this knowledge with my preferred Fish shell now.
Rui Hachimura just confirmed that as expected he is moving on to the NBA.
Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris is completely engulfed in flames.
A few random things about Creed that I loved: the juxtaposition of modern tech (YouTube, taking a cellphone picture of Rocky’s drills) with the old school Philly training, the final fight venue being Goodison Park in Liverpool, and Phylicia Rashad as Apollo Creed’s widow.
Creed was a pretty great movie.
Wow!
Just had the crazy realization that every single one of the impressive CH-47 Chinook helicopters that landed on the GU soccer field this morning cost more than the McCarthey Athletic Center did.
Forgot my USB-C audio adapter, my primary earbuds, and my Bluetooth headphones so private iPad Pro audio and podcast listening on tonight’s run are completely hosed today.
Finished Wil Haygood’s Tigerland last night, and man that’s a great, bittersweet book about the intersection of high school sports, racism, the Civil Rights Movement, and a time in U.
I was excited to hear today that Spokane has been awarded a $53,000,000 grant to complete the Central City Line, an east-west rapid transit electric bus route running from Browne’s edition to SCC.
Bobby Hurley is being linked to the St.
Guy really was the refs’ favorite in the Final Four.
Texas Tech can’t get it done in OT and Virginia completes the epic worst to first storyline nobody would have believed last year after their stunning first round defeat to a 16th seed.
8-0 run from Texas Tech turned this back into a real game in the last 5 minutes.
Texas Tech not really giving Virginia any problems this half.
I don’t feel like Virginia deserved to win this game the way they they finished it.
Virginia sure doesn’t have much composure for being up ten points with five minutes to go.
Today is going to mostly revolve around painting and basketball.
Oregon women had a real shot to beat Baylor, but the two blow by scores at the end were back breakers.
In other news that kind of boggles my mind: Mariners off to their best start in history.
General observation about text based CRPG combat: multiple rounds where player characters and NPCs do no damage to each other or miss completely are not very fun or compelling.
I saw a Pizza Hut ad poll on Twitter a few days ago pitting “Crying Northwestern Kid” vs.
They haven’t admitted it, but on review it sure looks to me like UVa’s miracle tying basket out of a missed free throw against Purdue to send the game to overtime was very much a called play.
Rui Hachimura is second team AP All-American and Brandon Clarke is third team.
Looking at the combat mechanics of BT1 it’s interesting that melee attack success is based on Character AC + some minor factors vs Target AC.
The Adventurers’ Guild is the definitive Bard’s Tale focused message board.
Looking forward to hearing some of my coworkers takes on Saturday’s loss, the Final Four, and next season.

March

It’ll be interesting to see how the Final Four ratings turn out sans Duke, but I’m pretty intrigued by the remaining teams and the fact that Virginia was the only 1 seed to advance.
I don’t expect Rui to come back and I don’t think he should, but he does kind of strike me as the rare player that might listen to his heart and do something unexpected.
69-75 Gonzaga loses to Texas Tech.
Zags are killing me and my Twitter timeline this half.
Losing Owens twice for uncontested layups at the hoop is unconscionable.
Frustrated with the Zags’ execution after they took a 4 point lead.
We’re on pace for a 24-24 final score for Texas Tech and Michigan after 10 minutes!
Gritty win by the Zags.
GU’s offense this half is slowly killing me.
Huge putback dunks by Jones and Clarke.
Didn’t like Clarke’s shot selection on the last two plays before Perkins’ steal and and-1 finish.
Felt like Perkins let off the gas on the finish of his drive and that’s why he got blocked.
Geno is really struggling with ball security today.
Great defense from GU so far and pretty solid rebounding.
Great to see Rui stepping up and playing well in a game where Brandon Clarke is being physically challenged and focused on defensively.
WSU is a tough place to find basketball success and it’s basically been dead to me since Kelvin Sampson left.
WSU names Kyle Smith as their new basketball coach.
The upside of starting to do speed work on Tuesdays again is that running is a lot more interesting and enjoyable again.
I sort of knew that the vector drawing capabilities in Keynote are surprisingly good (I’ve heard people even use it to mock up software interfaces), but got confirmation when I did some further investigation today.
Gonzaga women fall to OSU 70-76 in a hard fought game in Corvallis.
I see Wasteland 1: The Original Classic is for sale on GOG right now.
Today is the first Apple Event that I can remember not bothering to tune in for, but I have perused a couple live blogs now that it’s over.
Apparently older 21.
Finally a game broadcast on CBS that I’m moderately interested in watching (UW - UNC) and it’s not even competitive.
Rui finally remembered he’s an All-American on that drive and dunk.
Anyone that still thinks that Hatchimura is the best player on the Zags hasn’t been watching this tournament or the whole season for the matter.
Larry Bird’s post career public demeanor is kind of a mystery to me.
Rui off to another shaky start.
Don’t like calls Kentucky is getting down the course of this game.
UNC completely reversed their fortune in the second half and Iona started missing bad shots so I think I’m done with hoops for the night.
Carolina - Iona another surprisingly entertaining 1-16 matchup so far.
Interesting to see that G-W is playing an Amoeba style 1-1-3 defense in the possession I’ve watched and Virginia appears flummoxed by it.
I was feeling kind of underwhelmed by this year’s NCAA tournament and it’s lack of upsets and then I saw 16 seed Gardner-Webb is leading 1 seed Virginia 22-14 with 10 minutes to go in the first half and I felt kind of ill.
Not really impressed by all the empty seats I’m seeing in SLC for this game.
Farleigh Dickinson seems to be going with the slowdown approach on offense as well.
Auburn narrowly escapes New Mexico State as the two get into a “snatch defeat from the jaws of victory” (aka “hold my beer”) contest in the final couple minutes of their game.
Finally played a little bit of the original Bard’s Tale (emulated Apple IIgs version I bought on GOG last summer) last night.
Sounds like Arrow, my favorite CW superhero show is going to be ending its run next year with a shortened 10 episode season 8.
I haven’t seen anyone else pick my lineup, but it was based on offense, defense, tournament success, and value.
The Spokesman Review had a pretty fun Gonzaga Dream Team thought exercise yesterday.
I was bummed out to hear that Phil Martello was fired by St.
Tweaking the podcast recording setup in my office yet again in preparation for tonight’s episode.
Apple updated the iPad Mini and iPad Air this morning.
Migrating data from a Snow Leopard era 11″ MacBook Air (without Thunderbolt 2) to a 2018 Retina MacBook Air is dongle hell, especially when you left your USB Ethernet adapter at work.
Irritating Noises for Irritated People is the name of my next band.
Beto O’Rourke announced his 2020 presidential candidacy a few days ago and today it came out that he was a member of the Cult of Dead Cow hacker group in the 90s.
Thinking about podcast topic ideas for tonight.
So weird to realize I’ve probably just completed my first pay period of the year without taking any time off.
Showed the kids NBA Jam for the SNES tonight- they were still talking about its zany take on two-on-two basketball a few hours later!
Rough cut of the podcast episode I’ve been working on is almost done.
It’s kind of amazing just how often headline news like the recent celebrity college admissions scandal falls squarely in the wheelhouse of the Rocket: accelerated geek conversation podcast.
Missed transition drive.
Great game from St.
What a disappointing performance.
Second half is really no better.
Disappointing half for GU.
The keyboard command customization capabilities in Ferrite are pretty stellar because they allow you to select and edit clips in a very precise way and minimize the need to rely on the touch interface.
Really unhappy with Gonzaga’s bench play and defense in the last 10 minutes, but they’re still going to score 100 in the win so…🤷🏻‍♂️
Zags are cruising versus Pepperdine- up 47-26 at the half.
Fantastic scoop shot from Zykera Rice rolls in at the buzzer and GU comes away victorious!
Double OT in the GU women’s SMC game has reduced productivity on campus to zero!
Spent some time editing a podcast episode in Ferrite during my lunch break.
I will never think of my dad’s birthday in quite the same way!
Just recorded my first podcast in four years with the three older kids.
NESmaker is pretty neat.
Just learned that 52 year-old actor Luke Perry of Beverly Hills 90210 fame passed away from a stroke today.
Productive weekend with Pixitracker.
Ralph Breaks the Internet definitely falls in the category of superior sequels (and I really liked Wreck-It Ralph)!
Having fun with Pixitracker this weekend.
There’s no way Richland should have lost to this Mt.
Prep is now up by 20.
That Anton Watson dunk was like a Mortal Kombat finishing move on this game.
9-2 run to close out the half gives G-Prep an eight point cushion.
Prep - Mt.
The GSL has representatives in the four state title games: Mt.
Prep will face Mt.
The two best players on both Federal Way and G-Prep have four fouls now with 4:45 to go.
Wow!
Getting more ruthless with my podcast queue overhaul today after noting all the old episodes and deciding to make some changes.
Richland shows absolutely no ill effects from yesterday’s loss to Federal Way and dominates Kentridge 83-59.
Number 1 seed Union loses to Puyallup 61-48 and finishes the season 24-3.
I think Jay Inslee has done a pretty good job as governor of Washington, but I have just above zero interest in him as a presidential candidate.

February

Mt.
Now that we’re ramping up the 3k1d podcast again I finally got a chance to try out my copy of Audio Hijack Pro.
Federal Way dispatched Richland pretty easily and Prep did the same with Kentridge.
Sounds like Richland was able to pull their starters in the fourth quarter against Mount Rainier.
Governor John R.
The black tinted keyboard and mouse that go with the iMac Pro are my favorite part of finally working on one.
Gibbs put himself through college working nights at a factory (even during the football season!
Today I learned that Ohio State has an even better, more inspirational walk-on story than Rudy.
Literature review with Papa.
On paper it’s kind of disappointing that G-Prep and Federal Way are projected to meet in the 4A semifinals, but then I’m reminded of 2007 when Ferris beat defending champion Franklin in the semis and then had to go to OT to beat Kentridge in the championship game.
Watched Iron Man with the two oldest kids tonight.
G-Prep took a pretty good shot from Curtis in the first quarter, adjusted, and went on to handily win 65-47.
February in Spokane has been physically brutal compared to the first half of winter thanks to all the snow and sub freezing temperatures.
The Pinebook is an affordable ($99!
Looks like a really nice (while still frigid) sunny day out my office window.
I’m only like 17 years late for the party, but finally reading BraveHearts by Bud Withers.
Nothing like accidentally banging into the kneecap that was still sore from an unexpected impact earlier in the week.
Discovered an awesome chiptune adjacent podcast this morning called Retro Game Audio.
A well earned skate break!
Prep completely handling Richland so far.
Super stacker!
And we’re off again.
The Eastern Washington high school basketball playoffs’ long weather induced cancellation nightmare is finally over!
How could the former Apple lawyer in charge of preventing company insider trading possibly think that he could escape notice when he illegally traded his own Apple stock?
Today we listened to most of the 6 episode (unintentionally) limited run podcast I did with my older kids four years ago.
Snow Day!
Forgot that my Rube Goldberg Instagram IFTTT auto import system chokes on captions with Emoji in them, but it still works fine if I download, rename, and toss it into the right folder.
Disappointing lack of plowed roads on my drive into work this morning.
What is going on?!
Finally saw The Incredibles 2.
Noticed our gutter chain had turned into a serious icicle so I took a picture and then it was 🔨 time!
Crazy windy (for winter in Spokane) this morning with gusts in the 20+ mph range and intensity building up to 40+ over the next few hours.
Looks like we’re finally getting a more typical Spokane winter snowfall this weekend.
Brandon Clarke pushed the Gonzaga season block record up to 75 with his 5 blocks against USF last night.
Kind of surprised to find that I still had over 1000 photos on Flickr (3000+ in fact) so needless to say I’m downloading and backing them all up today before any disappear.
This first half sucks as much as that screen pass that Tom Brady just threw into the ground!
I’m actually more motivated to watch and get caught up on some of my tv shows just so I can listen to my favorite podcasts where they talk about them.
Good finish to the half by Gonzaga after a surprisingly competitive first twenty minutes vs.

January

Bill Simmons has an interesting take on the Super Bowl- the QB with the most pressure this year is clairvoyant commentator Tony Romo!
I was going to read a book called I am Princess X that is an interesting hybrid of the traditional and graphic novel, but the Kindle version is locked to a horribly small font size.
More projection from Trump: today the man that can’t be bothered to read a single page intelligence brief and relies on cable news, balding racist lackeys, and Vlad P for policy guidance is calling our intel chiefs ‘passive and naive’.
A bunch of my tv shows have resumed after the holiday break, but I’m not super enthused to find time for them.
2.
Today I was going through my reading lists from the last 7 years or so and it’s amazing how many books that I feel like I just read that are actually back in the 2014-2016 range.
I really like the CarPlay support in my mom’s car, but the audio connectivity flakiness is driving me crazy.
It’s been a weird year for watching GU basketball.
I was surprised how windy it was on today’s run.
Finally tried the new University District Bridge on my lunch run.
Discovered two really interesting open source cross platform note-taking apps this week.
Just heard that Clemson football was treated to a fast food dinner at the Whitehouse thanks to the government shutdown.
I am a big dummy.
Got my end of year retirement fund report today.
The Pixilart iOS app works surprisingly well on my iPhone, but the missing eye dropper tool is a glaring omission, particularly since it’s part of the web app.
Finally figured out what’s involved in setting up a flash drive to have a custom name and icon that travels with it and shows up in macOS and Windows.
Daredevil Season 3 was easily the best one yet.
Seattle’s decisions to sign an old, washed up kicker completely bites them in the ass again.
Season 3 of Travelers could be the last one, but all I know is that it’s the only Netflix show that I’ve seriously binged since summer.
Better second half for UW, but they’ve got to be kicking themselves for that end of first half three and out that set up Ohio State’s third touchdown.

2018

December

2018 #top9 featured more basketball and Gonzaga than I expected, but I guess some things in my life are inescapable!
2018 #top9 featured more basketball and Gonzaga than I expected, but I guess some things in my life are inescapable!
Cougars hold on to win 28-26 over Iowa State and finish 11-2 on the season.
Apparently the Iowa State QB’s little brother, who is also a quarterback, is named “Chubba”.
WSU with a really disappointing third quarter.
Seriously irritated at some of the WSU mistakes so far.
Avengers: Infinity War is without question my favorite of the Avengers movies to date.
Finally got caught up on my DC Universe TV shows in the last week only to realize there’s a ton of new stuff on Netflix that I need to find time for now.
I haven’t seen Split yet, but I had heard that it was in the same universe as Unbreakable (which I loved) based on a cameo at the end.
Glad I got my run in earlier and don’t have anywhere to go to tomorrow.
Janikowski never should have been out there for that kickoff.
Seahawks really need a clock killing drive and score now.
Mahomes is unreal.
Wow!
Just successfully completed an escape room.
This unseasonably warm, wet, and windy December day is kind of a bummer.
After months of searching and not being able to find a bunch of missing flash drives, reached under my desk to grab a Christmas present I was hiding, and somehow grabbed a big ziplock bag with the missing flash drives and a few Thunderbolt cables instead.
Disappointing half for Gonzaga and I put a lot of it squarely on the shoulders of Clarke (no rebounds) and Hachimura (2-7 from field).
Zags play UNC in an hour.
Learning that Apple arbitrarily broke custom ringtone support in iTunes in recent versions, but you can actually still load them via copy and paste is rage inducing!
It’s been a long time since I’ve sat down and just watched an NFL game between two random teams in a Sunday, Monday, or Thursday night game.
Incredibly disappointed to hear that the District 81 School Board is moving forward with Albi rather than downtown Spokane for the replacement stadium.
Innovative collaborative macOS text editor SubEthaEdit 5 is now free and open source.
Another slippery slightly snowy commute this morning.
The iPhone XR is apparently having the same low sales problem that the 5c did despite having superior value relative to today’s top of line.
I think with that much time (17 seconds) I’d rather attack the basket and stop the clock (maybe even get an and-1) than try a predictably well contested Norvell 3.
Zags playing better 5 minutes into the second half, but Tennessee still scary on the offensive glass.
Zags are getting embarrassed so far this game.
Weird Friday vibe at work.
I’m around enough newer Mac laptops, iOS devices, and Dell displays that iMac bezels are starting to seem huge.
Finn the human!
Video confirmation that Gonzaga recruit Drew Timme has ridiculous handles for a 6’10″ dude.
Rui with the clutchest of clutch game winners.
Holy Crap was that a poor sequence by the Zags with a four point lead and 30 seconds to go.
I feel like Few should go back to Petrusev since Clarke can’t seem to finish point blank shots tonight and isn’t getting stops at the other end.
Zags let the Huskies right back into the game after halftime.
I will say this: Bill Walton is doing serious work on his Spokane references tonight for a guy who was last here 20+ years ago.
Prep manhandled Mt.
There’s a new story format out for Twine called Chapbook and it looks really promising.
Just realized the GSL schedule is really unfortunate this year with 4A favorite G-Prep and 3A favorite Mt.
Just learned this morning that legendary Tour de France broadcaster Paul Sherwin passed away unexpectedly Sunday at the age of 62.
Dialog is a new domain-specific language for creating interactive fiction inspired by Inform 7 and Prolog.
Christmas Cookie Monster!

November

George H.
So the Olivia Jaimes “Nancy” comic strip reboot is pretty genius.
Zags leading North Dakota State 63-32 with just over 16 minutes left to play.
Sounds like a lot of wealthy Texas Tech donors and Mike Leach himself are interested in a return engagement in Lubbock now that the job is open again.
Disappointing game.
Missed opportunity with that interception in the end zone to end the half.
7-14 after a nice half ending drive.
Apparently field overlay technology has evolved to the point that it can show all the line numbers and hash marks on top of a snow covered field.
Ugh.
What the heck happened with the center and his snap?
On a crazy note that was apparently Jake Browning’s first red zone interception in his lengthy career.
UW goes away from the run and immediately throws an end zone interception.
WSU didn’t look sharp at all as they went 3 and out.
Tonight looks like the rainiest Apple Cup I’ve seen in a long time and it’s in Pullman!
My expectations for today’s Apple Cup are fairly tempered.
Just heard a cat meowing and wondered if one had somehow snuck into our basement.
Zags hold on and get the stops they need to beat Duke by 2!
I seem to be more stiff and sore today than I was yesterday, the day after I played a whole bunch of dodgeball at work.
Zags win 91-74 after completely dominating the final 15 minutes of the game and outscoring Arizona by 30 points.
As ugly as this game has been I like that the Zags were able to completely turn things around in just a few minutes with stops and 3s.
Slow start to the half, but Brandon Clarke, Snacks, and Kispert finally string together some plays that start to swing the momentum a little.
Zags trail 37-45 vs Arizona at the half.
I like Dave Winer’s take on where Carmelo Anthony’s career truly went awry: God gave him Linsanity, his hubris wouldn’t let him accept it, and it’s been all downhill ever since.
Illinois has managed to rattle Gonzaga with their defensive tenacity and the Zags’ guard play has been pretty shaky as a result during this stretch.
Back to back 3s bring Illinois within 4 for the first time in ages.
On a non basketball note only a handful of Lime scooters and bikes left in Spokane now.
Bill Walton just gave Jeremy Jones a ton of deserved love and is now lobbying for him to get player of the game.
Power row along the GU sideline.
Crazy ragged game for the Zags, but they still lead 39-32 at the half thanks in part to 12 from Jeremy Jones.
Bill Walton is in rare form for tonight’s GU - Illinois game!
48-14 WSU over Arizona with 3 minutes to go… in the first half!
I must have had my sports fan card suspended last night.
Stumbled across Steve McNair: Fall of a Titan this morning and I’ve been bingeing it ever since.
Just heard Stan Lee has passed away at age 95.
I can’t believe the Hawks went for an onside kick with ten minutes to go and down two.
Really disappointed in all the homerun high difficulty passes that WSU went for (and missed) to end the half.
It’s snowing at home and work!
Got to configure a new 12.
Just heard RBG fractured 3 ribs in a fall at the Supreme Court yesterday and is in the hospital.
Turns out Spokane County still has like 84,000 ballots to process!
I can accept the narrative that more motivated Republicans turned out for Tuesday’s vote, but I wouldn’t expect Lisa Brown to lose a significant number of the votes she had back in August and based on the turnout I would expect more votes than she received in August.
We’ll see what the final tallies are in a couple days, but I will say I find it fairly odd that Lisa Brown is proportionally 1400 Spokane County votes short of where she should be if everyone that voted for her in the Primary voted for her again.
The local congressional race didn’t turn out like I had hoped, but at least my voting district appears to be a segment of pink (< +50 for) in a sea of north Spokane County red on one map I saw.
Great to see G-Prep success story Sam Dowd out on the floor for Idaho State!
Brutal lack of defense from Gonzaga combined with ineffectual offense lets Idaho State right back into the game.
Installing Windows Subsystem for Linux on my Surface Book 2 after months of never getting around to it.
Big day.
Rode a Lime eBike for the first time today.
WSU survives 19-13!
Nailbiter in Pullman!
Wow!
Well, that blast of sunlight didn’t last.
Looks like I’m going to get set up with a new iPad Pro 11 for work.
One last recon to see how wet the start of my run is going to be.
Looks like I have a cold wet run to look forward to this afternoon.
As much as I thoroughly enjoy the vast majority of what Braden Haran brings to Hello Internet his opinions on popular media (most recently First Man) continue to irritate the heck out of me.

October

Time for a Tuesday afternoon run with the latest Upgrade podcast episode (covering today’s Fall Apple Event).
New Mac mini announcement!
So today’s Apple Event already started and is taking place in the Howard Gilman Opera House at the Brooklyn Academy of Music.
Finally starting to connect the dots on how to easily use unordered lists in markdown to create a text editor based outline system.
Cool that The Athletic had solid coverage of the Michigan State - Gonzaga secret scrimmage.
Feed me!
October is always a good month to get back into Lore.
I’m impressed with how much value Hulu offers for its price.
Bubble trouble!
Cougs get that final touchdown and close the deal on defense to get the 34-20 victory over Oregon.
WSU is going to need at least one more touchdown drive if they’re going to hang on and win this.
Oregon and their QB look like themselves again coming out of the break.
I’m kind of in disbelief as to how this game is going so far.
Great contributions from WSU’s running backs to start the game capped by a crazy gadget touchdown play from Williams.
Cool view (but I don’t think the windows have been cleaned in a while)!
Wow!
Already behind on the CW’s DC Universe shows.
I don’t choose to watch stuff on YouTube all that often so it figures there would be a worldwide outage on the night I was trying to watch something with my youngest kids.
I always preferred Paul Allen with a beard, but in conflict with my recollection cursory internet research seems to indicate he’d been clean shaven for most of his time as a team owner.
Just heard that Seahawks and Trailblazer’s owner passed away due to complications from his recently diagnosed non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma.
One of the neatest things that Bob did late in his career as a broadcaster was to call state high school basketball games for one of the local Spokane radio stations.
Legendary WSU radio broadcaster Bob Robertson just announced his retirement effective immediately.
Seeing a lot more of the older white deck style Lime scooters lately.
The second Incomparable podcast beer tasting episode was just as entertaining as the first.
Seahawks are off to a good start against the Raiders in London.
Oops!
Excellent service on my battery repair today.
Curious to see how long I’m going to have to wait for the Apple Store to finish my iPhone battery upgrade.
Pumpkin decorating is intense work!
Can’t believe Mahrez blew that penalty so badly.
Paul Turner is retiring from the Spokesman-Review.
Happy to hear Lamela is warming up.
Spurs not sharp today.
Alderweireld with another one of his patented goal-robbing last second clearances.
Going to have to checkout Horace Dediu’s new podcast: Micromobility.
The mornings are getting colder as they inevitably do.

September

WSU picks up a nice win over Utah thanks to a super clutch 89 yard touchdown reception by Easop Winston at the end of the fourth quarter.
That foul in the box on Rose was less than the one on Lucas, but maybe the referee was taking that missed one into account.
Wow!
Great finish by Harry Kane, but Lucas Moura set that up with a great run into the box and then playing through a foul to get the ball back to Trippier for a perfect cross!
Still trying to figure out if a specific app beyond iOS 12 itself is behind the rapid battery drain on my iPhone.
I think iOS 12 is pretty awesome, but it’s really killing my battery life.
Great half from WSU at USC.
The iOS 12 upgrade appears to have gone smoothly for my iPhone.
At least the right earpiece still works works so they’re still usable for most podcasts.
I have the worst luck with Bluetooth headphones.
I’ve really liked what Lamela has brought to Tottenham’s attack every time he’s been subbed in this season.
And just like that Lamela brings hope to Wembley!
Dier has been disappointing today and I haven’t been that happy with Danny Rose either.
Unfortunately Liverpool is able to take advantage of a set piece rebound with a well placed header and takes a 1-0 lead into the locker room.
Rough start to the game with Liverpool attacking with serious vigor and putting Spurs on their heels out of the gate.
One episode in I think season 2 of Iron Fist is looking a lot more promising than I would have expected.
The HomeCourt ShotScience basketball shot training demo with Steve Nash was super impressive and the AR Galaga demo was pretty crazy!
Finally watched Black Panther and it was as awesome as I anticipated.
Starting to rethink my work task tracking system in terms of todo.
Fiddling around with ToDo.
Finished season one of Disenchantment at lunch today.
Baked Alaska!
Man, Will Dissly just put on a tackle breaking yards after catch clinic with that reception.
Seahawks looked bad on their opening drive, but capitalized quickly after their defense picked off a pass.
In what’s becoming a bit of a tradition: Mary and this year’s birthday cake alternative masterpiece!
Good birthday celebration weekend!
Dark mode in Mojave is cool.
In yet another case of “where did the last 20 years of my life go?
Going to give the Mojave Public Beta a go shortly on a spare machine.
Playing with Reeder 3 for Mac a little bit this morning.
Our little flower fan!
The new front view!
Huge game winner for former Spur Kyle Walker as City finishes off Newcastle 2-1.
Great run and finish by Yedlin!

August

Oh, wow!
Publii is an interesting looking static site generator that runs on Mac and Windows and supports a variety of different destinations.
Love that guys Spurs already had on the roster like Lucas Moura and Trippier are stepping up big time this season!
Pretty entertaining first half between Spurs and Man U.
There’s no management application on the iPads, but there is a Self Service app that can be used to load things
The Wolverhampton manager’s beard is my Man of the Match.
It’s been cooler outside in the mornings lately so I’ve been wearing a fleece vest into work.
Cool to see that Mastodon is gaining traction among some of the podcasting people I follow on Twitter.
I’m halfway through All or Nothing: Manchester City and loving it.
Harry Kane finally gets his August goal on the end of a fantastic attack by Lamela!
Trippier with a tremendous bending free kick over the wall and into the corner to put Spurs up 2-1!
Really disappointing approach by Spurs for a lot of this game.
Fantastic goal from Lucas Moura!
Xfinity mobile pricing is definitely starting to look viable and competitive for our family now that they’re allowing customers to bring their own phones.
All or Nothing: Manchester City looks like it’s right in my sports documentary wheelhouse, but now I need to figure out when I can watch 8 45 minute episodes.
A bit of a later summer lull among my usual podcasts this week (or perhaps I’ve just been listening more?
Weird day so far weather-wise.
Doesn’t look like there’s much hope of our now annual wildfire smoke-stravaganza letting up in the next couple days based on the 24 hour simulation I saw this morning.
Just saw the crazy game saving/winning sequence that Wayne Rooney pulled off for D.
I feel like the kit designs for the Premier League clubs I’ve seen so far this season are pretty good.
Spurs hold onto their first half lead to defeat Newcastle 2-1.
My Pebble 2 HR conked out and started displaying an error code during some weird dry lightning just after midnight, but I was able to get it into recovery mode and do a restore.
Seriously looking forward to the weekend.
Spurs first game of the season will be on NBCSN tomorrow morning… at 3:30am.
Played a bunch of Ultima IV today.

July

Time to head out into the 95°F hellscape for a quick run!
Underwhelmed by the new throwback style Lakers jerseys, but reserve the right to change my mind once I’ve seen them in action this season.
It’s kind of funny/sad how common skinsuit drama is for national (and world) champions during time trials in the Tour.
Trying out the telecommuting life for a day to focus on some Mac software update admin tasks.
Fiddling around with Grav a little bit the last couple days since it’s been a while since I’ve played with any new web apps and it seems like a pretty cool flat file CMS.
Found out today that Serenity Caldwell is leaving iMore to join Apple’s Communication team.
Early July mornings chilling in front of the TV and watching the Tour with my kids is my jam.
2-0 Belgium.
It’s so weird to hear that Belgium’s manager, Roberto Martinez, is basically the same age as me.
So far Belgium is looking superior in most facets of the game like I suspected they would, but England is still competing.
Just got word that our roof is done!
Going through another one of those World Cup inspired phases where I’m adding soccer related material to my reading list.
Just discovered how hot it is outside right now (91°F) when I took out some boxes for recycling.
That bee though!
Given that Croatia is the one team with minimal personal rooting interest for me (Modric is cool, but left before I started following Tottenham) I think they’re a lock to win it all!
Tough loss for England.
Huge free kick goal from Trippier to put England up 1-0 5 minutes in!
I was hoping Belgium would pull off a comeback W vs.
Apple’s screwing around with bringing limited iOS apps to Macs and crap keyboard design while Microsoft just took direct aim at power users, creatives, and students with Surface Go.
Really enjoyed the England - Sweden quarterfinal this morning.

June

181772118
A shadowy transformation…
181772118 2
181772118 1
Oh, wow!
Hey!
Weird, contrary, drizzly morning.
Even as I gear up to finally complete my custom ebike build later this month, I’m fascinated by the e-scooter reports I’m getting out of WWDC.
I’m simultaneously excited for and dreading the big Sharp Avenue construction project that starts next week.
20 years ago I would have been very alarmed by the Microsoft GitHub acquisition, today I’m pretty chill.

May

Finally solved my annoying Safari DEP token download crash yesterday without calling Apple tech support…
Well, I wasn’t expecting to have to break out the drill press while repairing my mom’s lawnmower, but here we are.
This is kind of wild.
View from the top!
Time to start watering the yard.
Kid Hacker Chic
Did something break with my Drafts - Blot microblogging setup?
Looks like I’ve got a really windy afternoon run to look forward to.
Suppose I should finally update to iOS 11 soon.
Hot Bloomsday this year!
Springtime swing time!
Time flies when you’re having fun!
Thought I was in trouble for my run when I saw it was 75°F outside, but then I remembered I did in fact pack a regular t-shirt in addition to the long sleeved one I originally grabbed.
Goodbye Office!
Watched the first episode of Netflix’s Voltron update with the older kids (and later the young ones when they finished their bath).
Making progress on my office move.

April

Delving into mustache templating again as I contemplate finally straightening out my blog and feed templates to work with micro.
The rss date issue I complained about for Inoreader is an architectural issue that is most obvious for feeds that were not previously in their system.
Now that the next remodel phase at work is ramping up even my (soon to be gone) office is getting noisy as they tear down adjacent rooms.
Productive weekend: did a bunch of yard work, got in a couple easy runs, and installed a new light fixture.
Inoreader seems to do something I find maddening- it doesn’t provide post date stamps, but rather client load time.
Finally replaced the kids’ bathroom light with the LED model we picked up several months ago.
Kelly Guimont and Don Melton are doing an outstanding job with their weekly Westworld recaps (and rewatches)!
The connection between Dark Sky and my local radar station has been flaky for months.
Had a good run on the Bloomsday course today, but faded in the second half as I grew dehydrated.
Ordered some new running shoes since my current pair have just about reached EOL mileage with just over a week until Bloomsday.
Playing with Inoreader and Unread today as part of my ongoing quest to mostly abandon Twitter and retake control of my personal news feed.
Season 2 of Westworld is off to a pretty good start.
Really like RPGMaker MV’s cross platform JavaScript engine, but not a fan of the default 48x48 tiles and chibi-style character sprites.
Humble Bundle is having a huge sale on games and software from the company that makes RPGMaker so I picked up versions 2K3 and XP for $11 combined.
Today I learned that there are two anime versions of Fullmetal Alchemist, the original eponymous version that launched before the manga source material was complete and Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood the version that came later and sticks to the original storyline.
My Twitter usage reduction continues to be pretty successful.
Tough to watch Indiana squander their lead with a bunch of missed jump shots in the final five minutes with Sabonis on the bench.
Domas is tearing it up this game and great third quarter by Indy to get back into the game.
I have to admit mobile.
Nice pick and roll post up score by Domantis against LeBron, but he missed the and one.
Watching some NBA playoffs, specifically Indy - Cleveland.
Never fun being sick on a beautiful weekend.
Not really a fan of how this cold/sore throat ramps up as the night progresses, but seems like a clear sign I need to go to bed early.
So on the latest episode of The Flash the Dibny - Thinker endgame I speculated about a while ago went down exactly as I had figured.
Kind of funny to realize that Inform 7 has probably had a Windows front end to match the original OS X app for years now, but having a Surface Book 2 as my primary laptop made me worry I might not be able to run it.
Have a decent couple day soft Twitter avoidance streak going.
Just discovered that Amazon Prime Video has the first 11 seasons of the new edition of Doctor Who!
Really heavy rain right now with more on the way.
I’ve done a pretty good job of staying off Twitter this weekend.
Three amigos!
The Flash regularly generates propulsive wind blasts by rotating his arms rapidly- getting his mass “Null”-ified and floating should be awesome not a life threatening problem.
Normally people worry about a pet taking bites out of the furniture- unfortunately our toddler seems to have taken up this hobby.
I don’t mind running in a gentle rain, but that’s definitely not what we’re getting right now and memories of Thursday’s wet slog isn’t helping my resolve.
Extra cheesy dinner!
Just saw that fitness tech blogger Ray Maker (DC Rainmaker) and his family have moved from Paris to Amsterdam.
Lots of crazy side effects to Donte Devincenzo’s 31 point MOP performance against Michigan.
Didn’t really know what to expect going into the second season of Jessica Jones, but it didn’t disappoint.

March

Loyola finishes the half strong to go into the locker room up 29-22 over Michigan.
Stayed up late last night and then woke up way too early this morning.
Wasn’t super excited about the Kansas - Duke 1 vs.
The Northern Quest Casino ad with Kevin Stocker made me laugh.
Had fun watching the second half of the Syracuse-Duke game with my sons tonight.
Finally ordered some new non Bluetooth headphones today.
It still kind of weirds me out to see Duke playing zone.
My new Surface Book 2 is cool.
Perkins is passing up good 3s to get worse 3s.
GU not used to Rui getting blocked at the rim.
I’d totally forgotten about the Game Play Color Game Boy Color emulator for iOS until I followed up on a Google account access check (it uses Google Drive to load your ROMs).
Can’t believe I’d never come across Sonic Pi before today particularly since I’d already come across a similar, but far less powerful text based music tracker a few years ago.
Zags hang on to win 90-84 on after a ragged final minute.
The man from Japan!
Complete reversal of fortune this half.
Three point blank in and out shots from Ohio State already.
Sloppy, sloppy start to the game until Norvell hits a three to get things going.
Busy day at work.
Wow!
Zags get an Ohio State rematch after SDSU sabotaged their wild comeback by fouling 3 point shooters on back to back possessions; those seven points proved insurmountable.
SDSU’s guards just broke OSU ankles on back to back plays!
Jenkins an impressive Tacoma, WA import for SDSU early with strong drives to the hoop.
Survive and advance.
Ridiculous Zach Norvell 3 at 20 seconds puts the Zags up 3.
Zags settling for 3s and missing their way back to a 5 point margin while UNCG attacks the basket.
Weird game.
Nice little run for the Zags puts them up 19-13 and forces a UNCG timeout.
UNCG playing great so far other than hitting their 3s.
Minor emergency when the NCAA streaming site incorrectly decided that Xfinity on Campus didn’t offer TNT.

Looks like Spielberg has turned Ready Player One into an epic looking movie if nothing else.
NCAA tournament games are about to begin, although Gonzaga’s game is still an hour away.
I didn’t realize everybody was getting adjustable standing desks as part of our big open office remodel until I took a quick tour at work yesterday.

Deckset 2 looks really nice.
Just discovered that Frederik Backman followed up My Grandmother Asked Me To Tell You She’s Sorry with Britt-Marie Was Here, a book about the most annoying (but ultimately sympathetic) supporting character from My Grandmother and completely redeems her.
It’s cool being able to control Spotify in my office (with the superior speakers) and update my queue on the fly using the iOS app.
Prep guts out the 54-52 win.
Federal Way up 29-20 at the half.
I couldn’t watch the LC - Richland game because it wasn’t streamed, but my gut says the Bombers were dealing with a post Prep hangover and the Tigers pounced.
Federal Way wins by 10 so LC will face Richland tomorrow to determine 3rd and 5th place.
43-35 Federal Way at the end of 3.
LC really blew it in that quarter and now trails by 5 at the half.
Much better second quarter for Federal Way.
Johnny Love is playing out of his mind in the first quarter with 8 points.
Wow!
OT after Streufert pulls up for an ultra clutch 3 and ties the game with about ten seconds to go.
Good timeout by Richland.
A couple bad possessions and G-Prep is back up 46-45 with Parola shooting a 1 and 1 after the break.
Lockett just picked up his 4th foul with 7 to go.
39-36 Richland going into the fourth after they squandered a 9 point lead.
26-23 Richland after a much better second quarter.
Prep jumped on Richland right away and leads 15-6 as the first quarter ends.
I fully expect Richland to take this, but it’s not going to be easy.
Not impressed with the NFHS Network’s livestreaming capabilities so far.
Driveway was slick this morning thanks to the freezing rain, but roads weren’t too bad on my commute.
Whelp, I submitted a computer request for a Microsoft Surface Book 2 base model this morning.

February

Contemplating a new work laptop and it’s not an Apple product!
I’m intrigued by the Sunnyside - Lewis & Clark matchup.
I also think it’s unfortunate that the top teams from both sides of the state project to rematch in the semis again.
I must say that I find the 4A bracket extremely puzzling.
My wife is six weeks older than me and still occasionally gets carded when buying alcohol.
Just discovered the kids’ iMac had MacKeeper running out of a local Applications folder in their home directory (since they don’t have admin privileges).
Didn’t watch the GU - San Diego game last night, but it went down to the wire like I suspected it might (away game vs.
Explored Anchor and its new iOS App a bit today.
Introducing Subnet
As much as I loved the original black & white versions of Scott Pilgrim the color versions are by far living their best life!
Prep wins 56-53.
Good, but ragged game so far.
20-24 with a few minutes left in the half.
Richland not looking sharp at all on offense.
Prep doing a great job of pressuring on D and pushing in transition so far, but struggling with Sorn’s length in the halfcourt.
Looking forward to watching Richland vs G-Prep on SWX tonight even if it is after 8pm rather than 7:30 as scheduled.
The Archive has really come along nicely over the course of its initial beta testing cycle.
LC fights off a 4th quarter rally and defeats Walla Walla 57-51.

My biggest revelation from the season finale of Star Trek: Discovery is that the immediately recognizable Clint Howard, whose name I didn’t know before today, is Ron Howard’s little brother and appeared as a child on episode 10 of TOS.
Surprise!
Unbelievable launch!
Pretty nervous and excited for this Falcon Heavy launch.
Well, that’s a bummer.
Finally got around to switching my DNS on axodys.

Mardi Gras mask fun!
Christian Eriksen had an amazing goal 11 seconds into the Tottenham - Manchester United game, but of course the EPL copyright police are all over YouTube and Twitter attempts to spread the joy.

January

Lots of discussion about the Xennial micro generation between 77-83 today.
Awful end to the half as the Zags allow the Dons to go on an 18-2 run.
You don’t expect the file system on a new, barely used SSD to go this bad, but that’s HFS+ for you.
Noticed the Starbucks on Hamilton and Sharp is now closed and vacant.
Just heard that Ursula K.
It just occurred to me that I’ve probably been getting more enjoyment out of the pogostick that my older kids got for Christmas than they have since I can actually do it for more than a couple bounces.
In a bizarre, but hopeful twist on this story, City of Spokane announces that ice ribbon skater that fell Friday is actually still alive, but remains in critical condition.
Today the Spokesman Review indicated that the deceased ice ribbon skater was a 64 year old woman, but revealed no further information beyond that she fell, struck her head, and was unresponsive afterward.
Just heard that someone died from the injuries they sustained during a Friday fall on Spokane’s new ice ribbon.
Zags got out executed in this one and lose by 3.
Zags got it back up to 7 again, but we’re tied at 63 with 6:44 to go.
Brutal stretch of sloppy play completely squanders the 9 point lead the Zags had built against SMC.
Nap team up!
Wow!
I have mixed feelings about the extended weather forecast I’m seeing for this week.
Took the boys to basketball practice for the first time today.
S1E10 of The Punisher kind of threw me at first, but was actually a pretty good Rashomon style episode that wrapped some things up and set up what should be an intense final three episodes.
Taylor Chavez, a University of Oregon women’s basketball commit had a ridiculous stat line last night: 42 points, 10 rebounds, and 15 steals.
Had another “man, I’m old” moment Sunday when I realized that Jacksonville’s quarterback (Blake Bortles) was born at the end of my freshman year in college.
Wasn’t sure how robust my Blot posting scripts were, but it turns out that only my Instagram import setup needed a simple rule update in Hazel to account for the year change so I went ahead and set up a rule for 2019 as well.
New friends!

2017

December

2017 sunsets on Mt.
No run today.
Teddy bear picnic!
Time to get up and see how much it snowed on our driveway overnight.
Another bummer finish to a good football season.
Cougars are playing terrible in their bowl game (like usual), but at least Zags are cruising against Pacific.
Time for a quick run.
Feel like taking a a Christmas Day nap, but not sure that I’m going to be able to pull it off.
Christmas Eve- working on finishing a big present project I started a couple weeks back and maybe wrapping some gifts.
My four-year-old’s hippy female Clark Kent game is strong.
Really liked The Last Jedi and have now listened to more total podcast discussion about it than its 2 hour 32 minute runtime (and eager for more)!
Super rainy sloppy day so I’m moving today’s run to tomorrow.
Good to see the Zags are a little more dialed in tonight.
Twitter speculation (based on tracking data and rail transportation experience) points to hitting a 30-40 mph curve at close to top speed (~80 mph).
Okay, additional photos from the scene make it appear that the lead engine went off the tracks at the turn and the intact one was at the back.
Horrible passenger train accident in DuPont, WA this morning.
Gutty win by Gonzaga to claw back from a horrible first 30 minutes and win in OT.
Zags in a serious post finals week funk.
Mods are the bane of my Minecraft parenting existence, but at least my older kids are to the point where I can just let them try to install them first.
That said, I’m in a weird space- things ended up so satisfyingly that I could walk away.
Wow!
2017 #best9
Sleepy.
Sounds like the recent Patreon fee restructuring is probably driven by the 90 million in VC funding they’ve received over the last two years.
It hasn’t even been a full week of sub 32° F winter weather and already the cold dry air is doing a number on my skin.
Wow!
Pretty good and funny winter break cliffhanger on The Flash and the Chekhov’s knife ploy by DeVoe was downright diabolical.
Gonzaga looking shaky with the ball and generally outclassed by Villanova so far.
Earlier today came across a really interesting Medium post about interactive fiction game design and read it all, but forgot to bookmark it.

Overtime after a complete breakdown on the final inbounds play by Perkins.
Zags were up 9 when I left to change a diaper.
Zags going to lose this game if they don’t figure out the Texas press during the last 5 minutes.
I like the Kevin Bacon as Few casting idea.
Rui and Fewie sitcom getting a lot of love from the ESPN crew.
Rough ball security for both teams coming out of halftime, but Zags still playing better than Texas overall.
So far Texas’s bigs confirming my suspicion that while JW3 is an NBA caliber athlete/defender/rebounder his offensive game is neutralized by NBA size.
Totally forgot WSU had a bye week to prepare for this one.
Another great punt after a miserable drive.
14-0 after the Huskies capitalize on a brutal Luke Falk fumble.
WSU defense playing solid after a tough first drive.
Well, that awesome punt is one of the few bright spots for WSU so far.
Lost my ESPN2 stream for the final 1:20, but the game was basically over after three straight Florida threes just prior.
What a weird finish to the first overtime.
GU guards just made the same double mistake back to back.
Overtime after a horrible final possession.
Jonathan Williams III having his best offensive showing yet tonight.
It’s great that Gonzaga gets on ESPN all the time, but man they get hosed on their scheduled start times every single game.
Forest moon of Endor cake.
Party maestro Mary puts the finishing touches on her Star Wars birthday spread!
Loki, the neighbor cat, always making himself right at home!
Time to scout out just how cold and rainy this afternoon’s run will be.
I’m fascinated by the various RetroPie portable gaming projects out there.
My podcast consumption has been down lately and it just motivated me to turn off “download new episodes” for a couple tech news related ones and Hello from the Magic Tavern (which while I’m no longer excited about is evergreen anyway).

That feeling when all your youngest kids are still up watching Halloween themed shows on the TV that you want to finish watching Stranger Things 2 on.
Definitely getting to the time of year when I’d rather run in the afternoon when it warms up, but you do what you have to do.
Almost watched four straight episodes of Stranger Things, but decided I had better call it a night and save something for the rest of the weekend.
Stranger Things season 2 definitely hitting me right in the feels from the get go!

Ting setup was fast and easy once I used the correct porting pin (it was the same one I setup to unlock, which initially wasn’t clear).
Planning to switch my iPhone over to Ting tonight from AT&T.
Also, the ingenious thing about HR as a character last season was that he showed that a competent and savvy ordinary person like Iris could totally handle the Star Labs team coordinator role without being a genius scientist.
Flash S4E2 was pretty solid (and funny).
Binging a lot of FATE Core podcasts and videos over the last couple days to get a handle on the system.
Really windy right now it sounds like.

If I can just figure out how to translate the Lego building part of my brain into working in MagicaVoxel I think I’ll be able to build some pretty sweet stuff!
Rain is on the way, but looks like it should be fairly light during my run after work based on the dopppler and forecast.
First episode of Lore will be available on Amazon Prime tonight immediately after the Thursday Night Football streaming broadcast.
